Big Apple Business: Scully & Scully Celebrates 75 Years of Sophistication Park Avenue’s Landmark Store Exudes Elegance Selling Fine Home Furnishings, Tableware, Gifts and Jewelry

With much of New York’s retail industry losing its allure, many specialty stores have been replaced by large chains or banks.  After 75 years, Scully & Scully remains one of New York City’s most respected stores.  The Park Avenue landmark sells exquisite home furnishings, tableware, gifts and jewelry in an elegant setting.  Whom You Know just loves Scully and Scully!  In fact, one of our friends from our Miss Porter's days was running the bridal registry here a few years ago...

Scully & Scully carries fine home and office accessories from around the world including china, crystal, sterling flatware, lamps, leather goods, and sterling picture frames.  The store recently expanded to the second floor once held by Christie’s, which includes a furniture showroom displaying large English mahogany desks, executive swivel-tilt chairs, plush sofas, Grandfather Clocks, extraordinary crystal chandeliers and original oil paintings.

The jewelry department sells original European and American designs.  Popular pieces include 18k gold stackable rings with precious stones and earrings made of scallop shells, South Sea pearls and gemstones. Among the whimsical pins are a gold penguin trio with rubies and diamond.  An extensive men’s cufflink selection consists of 18k yellow gold animal faces with ruby eyes.

Scully & Scully offers one of the world’s largest collections of Herend porcelain dinnerware and animal figurines, considered by connoisseurs to be the paragon of hand painted porcelain. The most famous patterns are Queen Victoria, named by the Queen herself after she purchased an entire set during its introduction in London, and Rothschild Bird, which was created in 1860 for the Baron and Baroness de Rothschild.  The figurines are painted in Herend’s widely recognized "fishnet" pattern and are highly collectible by Herend lovers worldwide.

Following the store’s inception in 1934, the family-run, traditional English and American furniture store quickly became synonymous with elegance, thanks to its exclusive handcrafted furnishings made of woods such as mahogany, exotic burr elm and satinwood.  Today the store boasts the same extraordinary craftsmanship with contemporary functionality.

The store’s distinction can be credited to constant travels around the globe in search of exclusive merchandise.  Imported items include silk scarves from Italy, faux sable throws from France, silk ties from England, and a decorative elm briarwood and mahogany jewelry armoire with a built-in safe from Tuscany.  Custom-made, commemorative hand-enameled boxes are imported from England with 24K gold plated fittings.

Personal consultation by their professional, friendly staff makes for a unique shopping experience -- their Interior Design team has decorated homes from some of New York City’s and the Hamptons’ best addresses to a castle in Turkey.  The Bridal Registry, Tabletop Consulting Service and Corporate Gift Department have characterized Scully & Scully as having superb service along with reasonable prices for the luxury that comes with it.  We recommend you pay them a visit for your holiday shopping!
