HAVE YOURSELF A MERRY LITTLE CHRISTMAS AT BONHAMS THIS DECEMBER

Train sets, Boucheron diamonds, Warhol prints and Beatles Memorabilia: Bonhams has something for everyone this Christmas

With Christmas fast approaching, why not avoid the frenzied high street crowds and the labyrinth of online shopping and delight in the festive offering at Bonhams. From toys and dolls to fine jewellery, musical instruments and iconic prints, Bonhams has the perfect gift for under the tree this Christmas.

For those who hark back to the nostalgic days of childhood, Bonhams will be selling an array of toy soldiers, teddy bears and beautiful dolls dating back to the Victorian era. The 16th December Toys, Dolls & Soldiers sale at Knowle is that of every boy’s dream, with a sack-load of Matchbox, Corgi and Dinky toy cars offered alongside charming Hornby Dublo train sets and Wrenn locomotives.

One of the highlights of Bonhams December sales is the ‘Art of Jewels’ featuring fine jewellery and iconic gems on Wednesday 9th December. A stunning pearl necklace, belonging to Lady Houston, the renowned philanthropist and benefactor, is sure to put a sparkle in your beloved’s eye this Christmas. This impressive double-row necklace of large natural graduated pearls is expected to fetch £30,000-£50,000. Elsewhere, a pendant commemorating the Delhi Durbar of 1911, designed by Boucheron features a beautiful central band set with rose-cut diamonds and is estimated to sell for £3,000-4,000.

Looking to make merry this Christmas? The 15th December Music Room Auction provides the perfect opportunity to purchase a stunning early 19th Century cello, C F Scmidt brass trumpet or iconic 1950s Fender Statocaster electric guitar. For a more celestial offering, bidders will have the opportunity to purchase a Grecian Thomas Dodd Harp with intricate gilt decoration (estimated £1,200–1,800).

On a similarly musical note, the 16th December Entertainment Memorabilia sale has a plethora of rare and unusual items. An early autographed photograph of the Beatles taken in 1962 is expected to reach £3,800 - 4,200, whilst a Grundig TK20 reel-to-reel tape recorder used by The Quarrymen and The Beatles is sure to get you rocking round the Christmas tree (estimated £6,000-7,000). Also featured in this remarkable sale is an array of film memorabilia, costumes and props from the likes of James Bond, Walt Disney, Star Wars and Doctor Who.

If you long for a picture–perfect Christmas, the 15th December New Bond Street sale of Prints offers an opportunity to purchase prints from the likes of Picasso, Chagal, Toulouse-Lautrec and Warhol. For the enthusiastic cyclist, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec’s (1864-1901) wonderful Cycle Michael, used for the first poster advertisement of “Simpson’s Lever Chain”, will be going under the hammer for an estimated £8,000-12,000. Also on offer is Pablo Picasso’s (1881-1973) Gongora - Vingt Poèmes, depicting a series of feminine beauties each with an accompanying poem by legendary Spanish poet Luis de Gongora y Argote (estimated £25,000-30,000) and an iconic image of Marilyn Monroe by Andy Warhol (1928-1987) for an estimated £40,000-60,000.

Jon Baddeley, Director of Collectors’ Sales comments: “With fourteen specialist auctions offering many thousands of fine and decorative works of art and collectors' items between now and Christmas, Bonhams will certainly have the answer to finding that suitable gift for the person that has everything.”
