NIGHTLIGHT: The New York Wine Expo held at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center February 26-28

Braving yet another snowstorm in NYC, the Whom You Know crew stopped by the 3rd annual New York Wine Expo, held at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center during the 1st day of its February 26-28 run.  One of the largest wine tasting events we've ever attended, the expo featured more than 600 wines from over 170 winemakers from around the world.  It was an event geared towards consumers ranging from novices to connoisseurs, and to trade professionals, with the final day of the expo dedicated just to them.  In addition to the tastings, each day of the expo featured a schedule of seminars that help further educate and increase attendees' enjoyment of wine.

Friday night kicked off the festivities which were held at the Jacob Javitz Center in a large room filled with an abundance of wineries offering samples.  Not only American wineries came, wineries from all over the world descended on this location.  After picking up our personal wine glasses (engraved with Wine Expo), we traveled from table to table to taste the offerings.  Each winery representative was knowledgeable and assisted our choice in sampling their wines.  Many of the wines featured had just come to market, so it was great to try new varietal's.  Many of the wines offered were affordably priced ranging from $12 to $25 a bottle.  We collected information on some favorites, so we can both enjoy our own bottle in the comfort of our own homes and review the best for you.

We get so much out of these wine tasting events, because where else can you taste such a wide sampling of wines, from this many regions under one roof, and get to meet and greet the winemakers behind all these labels?  We find new personal favorites each and every time, which we never would've stumbled upon otherwise, as some wines are obscure enough or just have yet to launch in the US.  The enthusiasm and energy during the first night of the expo was definitely palpable, there are many of us wine lovers here in NYC.  We're told that each year, the roster of wineries have new varietals, blends and regions that are sampled, thus making each expo unique, we can't wait to see what next year's expo will feature!

The event was also today from 2-6pm and you even get to take your commerative wine glass home.  We didn't forget to pack my handy wine wipes (an upcoming feature!), after those wonderful samplings of red, we wanted our teeth to shine brightly white!
