Cigar: Camacho, Triple Maduro
Origin: Honduras

Size: 6 x 54

Wrapper: Honduras - Maduro

Binder: Honduras - Maduro

Filler: Honduras - Maduro

Appearance & Construction: This triple maduro has a flawless leaf with virtually no veins which has the appearance of dark chocolate. Some oils are present though not an over abundance. There is a dual band system in place with one on the foot and the standard label as well. The labels are a very nice eye-catching silver with black print. This is a well built cigar with a nice cap.

Flavor & Notes: The foot of this cigar reveals prelight notes of anise, hints of espresso, nuts and raisin. On the draw the notes are sweet. The scent of the wrapper is very much like a barnyard with notes of straw or hay. Upon lighting this cigar one quickly realizes this is a true maduro smoke with a sweetness to it and a well defined note of cocoa. The cocoa begins to take on a more chocolate like note with notes of wood and leather creeping up in the background in the second third of this smoke. The final third has notes of pepper, leather and cocoa.

Burn/Ash/Draw: Expect clouds of white smoke full of earthy flavors, producing a remarkable aroma laced with unsweetened cocoa and coffee on a long finish. Despite a pretty jagged burn line I never felt the need to touch up the cigar. The impressive thing is the medium colored grey ash which held on. And despite trying to ash at 4″ and not wanting to make a mess, I had to work to break the ash. The draw is pleasingly smooth throughout producing a nice amount of smoke, almost no resting smoke and never once went out on me.

Overall: I now remember what I like about a torpedo--you can cut the size opening you like. This is truly a cigar smokers cigar! With a strong, bold, assertive taste full-bodied enough to sit the most experienced aficionado back down in his seat, yet, never bitter or overpowering. Camacho utilizes extended fermentation of the leaves to even out all the subtle flavors found in this legendary tobacco, allowing them to develop fully. What results is one of the most complex and delightful cigars you are likely to encounter. However, giving this to a new cigar smoker would not be a good idea.

This cigar will definitely be a permanent addition to my humidor.
