READ THIS: RAVENS By George Dawes Green

Ravens is a tale that is contrary in culture to most books we evaluate, but is similar to them in its well-written style and suspenseful tale.  Written by George Dawes Green, it takes place in the south and its characters are people that probably would not read Whom You Know, to put it bluntly.  As Peachy Deegan initially opened the cover she noticed at the top it said it was chosen by Stephen King as one of the ten best books of 2009...

If you fantisize about winning the lottery, or if you canive about how you can get to the earnings of a winner, you will find this tale particularly interesting.  Taking place over a short time period of just days, Ravens capitalizes on the fact that one small occasion in your life can make one big difference, and the domino effect that this plot takes will leave you turning page after page without interruption.

The internal conflict among some people in Ravens and overall character development is a central part of the story.  Alliances, families and overall personal motivations color the tapestry of this tale, and it's one we think you should be curious about.

RAVENS by George Dawes Green, the long-awaited third novel from the author of The Juror and The Caveman's Valentine, is now in trade paperback.

When Shaw McBride and Romeo Zderko pull up at a convenience store off I-95 in Georgia, their only thought is to fix a leaky tire and be on their way again to Florida—away from their dull Ohio tech-support jobs. But this happens to be the store which just sold a $318,000,000 Jackpot ticket. When a pretty clerk accidentally reveals to Shaw the identity of the winning family, he hatches a ferociously audacious scheme: He and Romeo will squeeze the family for half their prize. That night, he visits the Boatwright home and takes the family hostage, while Romeo patrols the streets nearby, prepared to murder the Boatwrights' loved ones at any sign of resistance. At first, the family offers none. But Shaw's plot depends on maintaining constant fear—merciless, unfaltering terror—and soon, under the pressure, everyone's sanity begins to unravel.
At once frightening, comic, and suspenseful, RAVENS is a wholly original and utterly compelling novel from one of our most talented writers.

George Dawes Green’s The Caveman's Valentine received outstanding reviews, was listed as an Editor's Choice in the New York Times Book Review and won an Edgar Award. The Juror was an instant New York Times bestseller and the movie was released by Columbia Pictures starring Demi Moore and Alec Baldwin. A film version of The Caveman's Valentine was released by Universal Focus and featured Samuel L. Jackson in the leading role. Green is also the founder of the not-for-profit storytelling organization The Moth, which conducts six ongoing programs and has been featured widely on television and the radio. George divides his time between Georgia and New York.
