READ THIS: Row, Row Row Your Boat, by David Ellwand

Row, Row Row Your Boat, by David Ellwand is a must for any upcoming baby shower or age 2-5 birthday. With new words to a familiar tune and delightful illustrations, this book is a gem. On each page, you (or your child...even better) can push a bright red button to activate the background music. The shy parent could just read the words, along with the accompaniment, but it's definitely better to sing. I have a masters degree in music education, and I can attest that the music is actually pitched in a great key for a sing-a-long. It's ideal for Dad, Mom, and child. Looking for a great way to spend some quality time with your little one? Row, Row Row You're Boat, is just the ticket.

Children love books with sound and traditionally parents don't, right? How many times have you found a fun book to read to your children only to find it it just too loud? They love it and we don't. I have found the answer! Row, Row, Row Your Boat from Silver Dolphin Books. It's a teddy bear sing-along book with the melody to the classic children's song and it is done really well! The sound is soft and melodic and the story timeless! This teddy bear, and my children, find themselves fishing, meeting a croc, shivering with penguins, avoiding pirates, roaring to a lion and of course living the merry dream! My three year old loves it and even picks it up and "reads" to her younger sister with the help of the song. This is one "sound" book I am happy to have in our home (and one that I know any parent would be happy to receive for their child).

The favorite children’s song “Row, Row, Row Your Boat” comes to life in this great book by David Ellwand. This clever book has built in music. It plays the jingle on each page so your child can sing along. On top of that it has extended verses that I never knew. The characters are based on steiff bears which magic it a bit nostalgic for adults. The pictures are fun and good for young children. I would recommend this for children one and half to three years old. The book will stay clean and in good shape as it is an oversized board book. A great addition to any children’s collection.

My three year old loved this book! His favorite part was pressing the button to hear the "Row, Row, Row Your Boat" music. He enjoyed how I changed the lyrics to the song depending on which page we were "reading" (singing). He also enjoyed counting the teddy bears on each page and naming the other animals in the scene. This is a fun book to read with your child. They will enjoy playing the music and listening to you sing the book to them. They will, eventually, even join in the singing of the story which is really fun! The artwork is different (photographs) which makes it interesting for the child visually. For the older toddler, there are many details in the artwork which can be discussed to help challenge them a bit (Which bear is wearing a scarf? Which bear has on stripes and which is wearing polka dots? Etc...). This is a fun, interactive, musical book that any child will enjoy!
