A Family Adventure Across America by Lynne Cheney is really smart book for children of many ages. Fantastically illustrated by Mover and Shaker Robin Preiss Glasser, you will recognize the style from Fancy Nancy. Travel through each state in our beautiful and diverse country in the pages of this book. From Massachusetts to Hawaii you will learn tidbits of important information on each state. People who have a place in history, places to visit on your next family trip and more. My favorite are some of the traditions from each state that children would enjoy, like in Georgia that people put pecans in their cokes! So have fun sorting through all of the cleverly linked illustrations to fun and important pieces of history. This book brings a sense of pride for all ages for our beautiful United States of America.

"Our 50 States" by Lynne Cheney is a really fun (and educational!) read. A family of five and their dog set off from their home state of Massachusetts on a trip to all 50 states. What ensues is a wonderful way for anyone to learn about America's geography and history. Facts are shared in a variety of ways- through short letters written to friends and family members and through as well as just being plainly stated! Illustrator Robin Preiss Glasser provides top-notch artwork which only enhances Mrs. Cheney's storytelling. This book is a great way to get the entire family involved in learning about the history of our country. The pages are a tad busy with information which may deter some at first glance. Give the book a chance though, because it contains invaluable information! Overall, "Our 50 States" is a fantastic read!

OUR 50 STATES is a wonderful children's book to learn about America. It teaches them about America, geography, history, and so much more. The most beautiful part of the book are the illustrations. I can't get enough of how educational and fun this book can be. The book is not only so fabulous for a classroom setting but also as a gift. I've seen children light up to this book. It keeps their attention and educates them. I really love it!

Starting the adventure in Massachusetts “where the Pilgrims landed”, Lynne Cheney and Illustrator Robin Preiss Glasser take you on an educational and fun tour of America in Our 50 States. Characters Mike, Sarah, Ben, Annie, Josh and dog Franklin travel the United States for the ultimate family vacation. The book provides some common historical facts and some not-so-well known facts about our states, which will help your child realize how each of our states has become so unique. Who knew the Dr. Seuss National Memorial was in Springfield, Massachusetts? Or that the World’s Largest Ball of Sisal Twine is in Cawker City, Kansas? Robin Preiss Glassner beautifully depicts historical moments of our nation throughout the packed pages. Together Cheney and Glassner have created an excellent book for your children to learn about our nation. Certainly, a must have.

Third grade is a big year here in Indiana. We are learning about Native Americans and where they lived. We do research on the various places they lived and then many of my students go the book Our 50 States to learn more about that state for their presentation. Many of the girls love this book because they made a text to text connection with the illustrations. They love the other books she's done as well. This is a must have book for any classroom. It helps get students interested in the 50 states. I've had several students quarrel over it, they love reading it that much!

Our 50 States by Lynne Cheney is a visual road trip through the US. Inspired by her grandchildren, Cheney has put together a road trip suitable for anyone looking to impart some great learning about our great country. My kids loved looking at the awesome illustrations by Robin Preiss Glasser. The pictures really draw you in!Among my family's favorite trivia -- CT has more horses per square foot than any other state! Also, did you know that Mr. Potato Head is manufactured in RI? How about Lollipops? Another hit for CT! But as you work your way through the states you will be happy to be back home (we ended with our home state)! A fun way to find something we could do locally to tie it together.
