Peachy at The Met: New American Wing Galleries for Paintings, Sculpture, and Decorative Arts Highly Recommended by Whom You Know

Is there anything we like talking about more than American History?!
Peachy has a B.A. in American History from Boston College...and was on Dean's List too.
Is there any museum we like more than The Met?!!?
Can you imagine how EXCITED Peachy was to see the New American Wing!
Entirely excited, we'd say.
There is even an entire room in YELLOW & GRAY for any ancients that may be reading:
You want to begin at the Joyce Clock on the second floor (ca. 1797 by Robert Joyce, New York) that was presented by Alexander Hamilton to the Philadelphia-based bank of the United States.  Several rooms await you with the best art of America and beginning with fantastic portraiture by Copley in the Colonial Era (1730-76), you will be impressed right off the bat.  There are some amazing Washington's by Gilbert Stuart and though Peachy is not 100% positive as it was prior to her coffee, Peachy believes she heard Jackie Kennedy say that the Stuart in The White House is the oldest item there - we saw on CBS Sunday Morning.  The portraits in miniature are charming, Art in the Folk Tradition (Check out the Third Avenue Railroad Depot-we think Banana Republic is there now), and of course the legendary Hudson River Schools will delight your eyes next.  Landscape paintings are absolutely gorgeous and in particular in the late Hudson River School room we liked Twilight on the Sound from Darien, Connecticut.  Extraordinary detail is exuded in the Seventh Regiment on Review in Washington Square and also In the Laboratory.  We loved the statue of Nathan Hale.  Of course, Washington Crossing the Delaware is the piece de resistance! Everyone knows that....Sculpture has a strong showing as well-the girl skating (1906) is perfect to see in February.  Our favorite was the American Impressionist room and the "Fleur du Lis" by Robert Reid is particularly commendable.  On your way up to the second floor from the first do stop by the mezzanine as it boasts a number of items worth your time-the Luce Center of Visible Storage has items currently not on view that you'll want to see: paintings, furniture and more with touchscreens at the end of each aisle to learn more.  Row 16 of the seaside is our favorite.
