Terrific Takeout: South's

To make it to South's you quite literally do need to head south and let us assure you if you are downtown and interested in takeout, this is one of the very best places we've found.  The food is solid and standout and the crowd is happy to be there.  Located at 273 Church Street between White and Franklin, this winner of a establishment is co-owned by Johnny Griffin, a nice lad from Limerick.  He and his partner (who is from Texas) took over South's 12 years ago and the American continental cuisine has us impressed.
If you are an avid reader, you know Peachy Deegan is a green bean enthusiast.  These green beans are not only fresh and crispy, but they are blackened giving them added texture and flavor.  An incredible beginning, the green beans have a nice tangy flavor as well especially when paired with either sauces: balsamic vinaigrette, which was more mild-mannered and we preferred, and salsa, which was on the spicier side. The beans are so stellar though they don't need sauce.  But we did like the sauce!
Cheeseburger, cheeseburger we love you!
Prior to Whom You Know ages ago, Peachy and her friend from Farmington started a venture to see what places in the city have the best burgers.  This is now on our short list.  Every place that serves burgers thinks their burgers are great, but that's not true.  At Smith's they are correct: their burgers are terrific.  Served Medium as requested, this 8 ounce sirloin burger on a sesame seed roll impressed us.  We also like how they cut the lettuce to fit the burger.
Here it is smiling for the camera:
It is brilliant that they offer a salad option with the burger-most places automatically serve fries and that's that, but at South's you have the option of salad or fries with your burger.
A neighborhood standout that clearly is popular and friendly, South's is Terrific Takeout!
Also we noticed they have great taste in music and listen to Blondie...
