Georgia Crowe-Benevides was born in Houston, Texas in 1957 to a Cuban mother, Clara Matilde Garcia de Maseda, and a Texas cowboy father, Talmadge Layne Crowe. She then moved to Cuba until Castro took over in 1961. Since she was only 4 she relied on her parents to take her out of Cuba and traveled with them and her 2 brothers for the next 10 years until they settled back on a ranch in Texas where her dad raised cattle and she rode horses. She then decided she wanted to be an architect and began her training at the University of Houston. She received her first project when she was 18 for her mothers best friends' home in Nantucket and was published for the first time in House Beautiful when she was 19 for a home in Houston.

After getting her Bachelor of Architecture, she decided to see the world. Her first stop was the Cayman Islands where she worked for a developer designing homes. After a year in the Caymans, she wanted to move to a different island and was offered a job in Bermuda. When she arrived in Bermuda she sat next to her future husband, David Benevides also an Architect, thus making Bermuda the end of her very brief island hopping but not the end of her world traveling. She and David decided to start their own architecture firm and they also decided to have a son, Ryan, at the same time. The firm and Ryan are now both 19 years old and Ryan has been to 47 US states and 25 other countries including Russia with his parents.

In Bermuda, there is an architectural design competition called the Building Design Awards that has been going for 16 years. Georgia and David have won the award 14 times, came in second 5 times and received an honorable mention 3 times. They have been published 18 times in various magazines including Coastal Living, Verandah, House Beautiful, Elle, and Southern Living. They have also won the Bermuda National Trust award 6 times for their careful renovation of old Bermuda homes.

Their son Ryan is now a freshman at Rice University in Houston where he is attending on a golf scholarship while studying Economics. They continue to have a solid firm with clients ranging from important political figures to entertainment celebrities with homes in Bermuda. They have worked in Florida, Virginia, Vermont, New York, and London as well as Bermuda. She is one of the authors of Bermuda Spirit, which we highly recommended: http://www.whomyouknow.com/2012/03/read-this-bermuda-spirit-by-georgia.html
