Terrific Takeout: Il Tesoro

Il Tesoro opened up on the Upper East side last September 15, 2011 in the space that Primavera used to occupy. We loved it there and Primavera was a Peachy's Pick.  We are so glad we finally had a chance to swing by for Terrific Takeout as Il Tesoro has got it right.  Owner and Executive Chef AJ Black was gracious as was Mario Tarantino, General Manager.  We began with the Rughetta: wild arugula and slices of tomatoes in a light aged balsamic dressing finished with shaved parmigiano.  A total classic, this salad was fresh, dressed properly, in appropriate pieces and we just loved the cheese also.  We were pleased to see both red and yellow tomatoes!

Google tells us that Il Tesoro means a treasure in English, and let us assure you that the Lobster Agrodolce (bittersweet) was exactly that.  Paired with Sicilian rosemary, sweet and sour lobster tail had a lovely sweet flavor, beautiful presentation, and was inviting overall.  This is one of the best appetizers we have experienced in recent takeout reviews!  Absolutely order this.  It is a regular on the menu.
There it is from another angle.

For our main course, we decided on a special of the night: Veal Chop Milanese!  A breaded and sauteed pounded veal chop, this was total quality.  Again, the presentation was flawless and the taste was outstanding.  The breading was also just right-it was not overly breaded and we like that.  Served with a mix of greens and fresh tomato salad, this dish would win anyone over.

Il Tesoro is top-notch Terrific Takeout!

Their site tells us:

Authentic Italian with “New Classic” flair, IL Tesoro serves up a festival for the senses that is a cut above the expected. Polished, professional, excellent service with the taste and feel of a Tuscan holiday. The menu sings of the delights of Italy -with the freshness of all the local fair.

The exceptional cuisine of Chef A.J.Black has thrilled guests for many years with such signature dishes as his famed succulent fresh seafood and lobster, “Risotto Pescatora” sauteed with clams, mussels, shrimp, calamari, and scallops then finished with his personal cherry tomato sauce recipe.

The elegant and cozy atmosphere of the restaurants makes them a popular meeting place where friendship reigns supreme. You can’t imagine eating boring food in this splashy but sophisticated and divine open kitchen that elevates it to an entertaining and inviting experience. There are three “Island” locations to enjoy!
