The Best Deal in NYC Just Got Better: Statue of Liberty National Monument and Ellis Island has announced an exciting change -- beginning June 4, 2012 audio tours will be included with the purchase of every ferry ticket to the monuments

Statue of Liberty National Monument and Ellis Island has announced an exciting change -- beginning June 4, 2012 audio tours will be included with the purchase of every ferry ticket to the monuments.

The audio tours, which complement the National Park Service (NPS) Ranger-led tours on the islands, provide a major enhancement to the visitor experience on both islands.

On Liberty Island, the 30-minute audio tour explores the history of the Statue of Liberty and its importance as a symbol of freedom and opportunity around the world. In addition, there are optional in-depth interviews with architects and historians.

On Ellis Island, the 45-minute audio tour immerses visitors in the immigrant experience through narration and first-hand immigrant accounts, inviting them to vividly relive the immigrant experience as if they were the “new arrival.” Additional options give visitors the opportunity to further explore the museum’s exhibits and galleries with interviews with historians, architects and archaeologists.

“Like our sister parks such as Alcatraz, and other major New York City attractions such as the Museum of Modern Art and the Empire State Building, the Statue of Liberty National Monument and Ellis Island is now going to provide audio tours of both islands to all visitors making this experience the best deal in town. Add to this offer, our expert staff providing free programs and activities that inform, educate, and entertain, and you have an unsurpassed experience,” said David Luchsinger, superintendent of Statue of Liberty National Monument and Ellis Island.

The audio tours, created by Antenna International, are available in nine languages: English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Mandarin, Russian and Arabic. There is also a special interactive children’s tour narrated by an animal character that keeps younger children engaged and entertained. The children’s audio tour is available in five languages: English, French, German, Italian and Spanish.

All ticket purchases made on and after June 4 will include the audio tour. The cost for an adult ticket is $17, senior ticket is $14 and tickets for children ages 4 to 12, can be purchased for $9. Audio guides can be picked up at the Audio Desks on both Liberty and Ellis Islands.

Tickets may be purchased on-line at www.statuecruises.com or via telephone by calling 201-604-2800.
