For all connoisseurs of fine beer, head straight to The Beer Authority, simply packed with endless varieties of the aforementioned beverage with a selection that is constantly updated seasonally and expanding with choices since it opened in April 2012.  If you are an uptown girl like Peachy and abhor venues like the Port Authority, do not let that deter you because even she found every aspect of the Beer Authority neat, clean and in order!  Even the bathrooms sparkle, which are each individual by sex and complete with beer tap handles that add an appropriate touch.

The Beer Authority was first featured in Tasty Tidbits:

and it has graduated to Peachy's Picks!

A total peach, owner Joe Donagher who hails from County Donegal arrived in New York 25 years ago and The Beer Authority is his latest venture.  If you need more convincing about who's who that goes there, Boomer Esiason hosted an event for his charity on the fantastic roofdeck there the night Peachy frequented the place.   So, back to the beer: you will be given a list of beer and the one we got was dated with the exact day and month we were there-we love that kind of attention to detail.  Stats include: RB, ABV, and even State/Country.  The woodchuck pear cider hit the spot first and that is from New York-refreshingly appropriate for the end of summer plus we think cider has fewer calories, and secondly, Peachy tried O'Hara's Brewing Celtic Stout which was quite similar to a Guinness:

How's the food you might be asking?  Let us assure you that Joe is serious about his food.  He has hired an executive chef that does a terrific job in our experience.  Prince Edward Island Mussels sauteed with fennel, tomato, roast garlic and wheat beer were so flavorful and the bread they nestled in was fresh, fluffy and equally as delicious as the tender mussels.  We haven't seen mussels in bread before and it is a winning combination.  Rose Fisher was a charming waitress who did her task with a smile and pride in her work and like Joe, was a total peach.
You know who love love LOVES lobster and for a place that is known for beer and not so much seafood, we have to say that the seafood that Peachy experienced was comparable to other fine dining spots she's eaten at.  Pappardelle with grilled lobster, asparagus, slow roasted tomatoes and lemon butter sauce was a wonderful symphony of summery flavors that will fill you up in no time-it's a generous proportion:
It is beyond us why anyone, local or tourist, would venture to any of the chain restaurants by the Port Authority....if you are in this area, this is where you should go!  It is also not far from Madison Square Garden - all you Rangers fans looking forward to the start of the season!  If you have an out-of-town friend getting to New York via the Port Authority, take them out of there immediately and cross the street and say hello to Joe!  We'd say keep walking up the stairs until you get to the roof, though the main floor has some laudable window seats too.  D
o not miss the roof!  It will even be open this winter, covered up:

Our esteemed panelist adds:

The Beer Authority! The name says it all. Over 150 beers on tap!
I actually arrived a bit early to sample some of their beer selection
(This is for science!). I tried a coffee stout and a Great Divide
Titan IPA. I enjoyed these two pints in the downstairs bar by the
entrance where the lively Irish bartender kept me thoroughly
entertained.
Once Peachy arrived, we moved upstairs to the huge dining room. I
decided to change it up a little and went with a Woodchuck Pear Cider.
This was delicious! It went well with my appetizer, the Roasted Beets
and Crisp Goat Cheese.

The warm and gooey goat cheese was great!
For my main I tried the NY Strip Steak. When I was at the bar before
the Irish bartender recommended this one, so I went with this. The
steak is massive, seasoned nicely and very juicy.

I'd highly recommend
giving this a try. The side was the duck fat roasted potatoes, yum!
I'd order them on their own! One more Pear Cider was in order with my
meal, I really liked this drink!
After our meal, we got a tour of the roof with owner, Joe. Here we
found a nice rooftop bar with a great view of the skyline. Its hard to
believe that the building used to be a gym. Joe's team have done a
fantastic job transforming it to the Beer Authority! The roof would be
a great place to host a gathering, meet up with friends or just enjoy
dinner. Check this out before the season ends!
I'd highly recommend stopping by the Beer Authority and having a pint
or three. I can't wait until my next trip there. Thank you Beer
Authority!
