An all-American tribute to everything that runs on a motor with four wheels, Top Gear’s first season in America is filled with fun, thrills and high octane entertainment by a trio of hosts- Rutledge, Adam and Tanner, that you will get a tremendous kick out of with their colorful banter including good-natured clean trash-talking. Based on the successful show across the pond, this American version shows everything from Lamborghinis in the desert to star guests like Buzz Aldrin zipping along their custom track for the fastest speed, and other guests include a hobbit, a Modern Family Actor, Kid Rock and Bret Michaels-and we liked the helmet Bret got. If you thought any competition wasn't possible before, think again because the wildest feats await you in this series.

The show takes us from Dodge vipers being chased by Cobra helicopters to races between cars and downhill skiers-right down to the skiers literally flying over the cars as they see who can get to the bottom first. Moonshine running in North Wilkesboro, North Carolina (Peachy’s been to a Nascar race there-and the day she went Tom Cruise was there too filming Days of Thunder…) – they do this too. You’ll learn all kinds of tidbits like how Junior Johnson invented the Boot Leg Turn.

Did you know you can play paintball in an El Camino? It can be done. And in these tough economic times, these three stooges stop fooling around and think about what car GM should bring back for future success, so there is a business aspect to it all. They don’t want GM to build a car for them; they want GM to build a car with them. In a later episode they work on used cars and try to sell them at a profit-watch to see how they do!

Though this show is for anyone at all that has the need for speed and a love of cars and competition, part of it is all-boy in that they do things like sleep in their car and wearing raw eggs and sticky soda. If you have a bit of prankster in you too you’ll get some good ideas from show to show. The footage is always creative as well and the cameras that are under the cars themselves are particularly captivating of perspective.

Peachy’s favorite part of the whole series was the Morgan brand, British founded in 1911 on Dorchester on Thames. This boutique car maker is one of the last survivors to be owned and produced in England, and each is made by hand. Even Simon Cowell has one…extravagant and simple at the same time, the Morgan is a stunner to see and to drive. This gentlemen’s sports car is not merely that: it is a piece of history. Tanner also named this as his favorite in the greatest hits show.

We are perplexed that they went to Miami for a race to Key West and think they should have gone to Daytona, but this competitive feat will regale you too. Their sense of adventure extends from the southernmost part of the USA to the northernmost at Alaska’s great wilderness. No matter what the venue or task, you can be assured that Rutledge, Adam and Tanner have something up their sleeve that you haven’t thought of before and will keep you tuned in to see what happens next. Our esteemed panel says:

As this was my introduction to Top Gear, I loved seeing the US version first season from the BBC. Anything that has sweet cars and Kid Rock in it works for me. The premise of the show starts with the three middle-aged hosts that perform some nutty challenges with some sick cars. So if you are interested in American Cars and the way they can perform under extreme and silly conditions then you have found a new favorite. It is original in its ideas although I have been told they take some of the UK episodes and tweak them a bit for the American audience and it works. Want to be mystified then just imagine trying to teach a blind man how to steer a car into a drift. I do think that the co-hosts get better chemistry as the episodes go on and that really does a make a huge difference in the comedy and goofiness of the show. The scenery in the Alaskan road trip is beautiful. It is a good partnership of beauty of our nation and the incredible performance and creation of a durable truck. Following a retarded handmade super-car the Hennessey VelociRaptor put against a HALO…who knows what can happen with 800HP. Just nuts what you can do to enhance these vehicles. I can only imagine what will come next…

I was prepared to be hatin’ on it. But I don’t. I like it. Look, if the U.S. Top Gear had shown up on our shores not preceded by 17 years of the British version, it would have been Kudo City. USTG was doomed to suffer by comparison to UKTG, regardless of how fantastic it might be.  America’s Top Gear? Eminently watchable.

After watching Top Gear UK, I was interested to see what the US version of the show would be like. Here in the US, the show can be seen on the History Channel, and the DVD has been released by BBC Home Entertainment. Many times when a show is replicated from its original version in another country, quality is lost. Thankfully, this is not the case with Top Gear, Season 1! The show definitely feels much more American than its British counterpart, but the fun, excitement, and laughs are all still there! The hosts, Adam Ferrara, Tanner Foust, and Rutledge Wood do an excellent job of making this show a real pleasure to watch! Guest stars in the first season include Buzz Aldrin, Dominic Monaghan, Ty Burrell, Kid Rock, Michelle Rodriguez, and Tony Hawk. There is never a dull moment in this show as it is full of daring stunts and challenges that will leave you on the edge of your seat! From the biggest car fans to those like me, who know very little about them, this DVD will not fail to impress. Give yourself plenty of time to watch because after the first episode, you won't be able to stop!

Already a huge hit in the U.K., BBC Home Entertainment's "Top Gear" is now a hit in the U.S. as well. Starring comedian Adam Ferrara, rally racer and stunt driver Tanner Foust, and NASCAR racing analyst Rutledge Wood, this show is sure to quickly become one of your favorites (if it isn't already). I have to admit, I normally wouldn't be inclined to watch "Top Gear", but my husband was watching one night and I got hooked. The "Top Gear" fellas are always up for an adventure....from stunts to challenges to car reviews and more. "Top Gear" Season 1 is out on a 3-disc dvd set. The ten episodes that make up Season 1 are all the more fun because of all the guest appearances by people such as Tim Allen, Kid Rock, Bret Michaels and more. With the holidays fast approaching, this would make a great gift for a family member or friend.
