"Oh, say does that star-spangled banner yet wave…" It waves in baguette rhinestones, or in celluloid furls. It waves on lapels sporting chic rhinestone American flag pins still made by Trifari. And it waves on compacts, on cufflinks, and on shoes. In Schiffer's new "Star Spangled Jewelry," we have stars, stripes, and mighty eagles surmounted in cast metal, or plastic from WWII, and popularized after that war as a reinforcement of the American spirit. As brooches, as pendants, earrings in any and every capacity, the patriotic wearing of the American flag is fashion. As a quiet statement or flaunted proudly, the happy tricolor jewelry collected in these pages will inspire. Herein is the collection of Sandra J. Whitson, and as documented by Nancy N. Schiffer, the collection is vast, and fascinating. there are hair combs, and exotic compositions, alongside the straightforward set up of our flag, in its happy, familiar shape. It may just send you out into the world of antique jewelry to seek out your own piece of the American dream.

At Whom You Know, we are big on patriotism and pride in our country. We also love our jewelry and accessories. So, Schiffer Publishing's Star Spangled Jewelry by Sandra J. Whitson and Nancy N. Schiffer is right up our alley! Filled with over 625 photographs showcasing the wide variety of accessories that showcase American pride, Star Spangled Jewelry is an interesting and enjoyable book. As acknowledged in the introduction, there have been certain periods over the last century where there were swells in patriotism (for example, during WWII, around the bicentennial of the U.S.A. in 1976, in the period following September 11th), and consequently, larger volumes of patriotic jewelry were produced during these times. The chapters are divided into categories, including flags, shields, stars, ribbons, eagles, Uncle Sam, Statue of Liberty, and more. Even Christmas gets a chapter to itself, with glittering red, white and blue snowmen, Christmas trees, and angels! Star Spangled Jewelry provides an fascinating look at our the history of our country's spirit as shown through jewelry and would make a terrific gift for any patriotic American.

I am not really sure I had any idea how big the category of Star Spangled Jewelry was. Schiffer brings us a book full of illustrations and pictures of so many collectible and historic pieces. It is hard to believe that this comprehensive book does not encompass even all of the designs out there. It makes you want to start looking for all of these kinds of jewelry at flea markets and antique sales. Of course now you will start to see pieces around now that you have read the book. With all to choose from and the patriotic feeling I got from looking at them in this book, it truly is a shock that our President Obama is rarely ever seen wearing a flag pin. His lapel looks naked without it. I believe that every other president since WWII has worn one. Maybe Schiffer should send him this book.

Like any good American, I love showing pride for my country. Many times that's done with words, but sometimes I like to wear my pride! Star Spangled Jewelry, by Sandra J. Whitson and Nancy N. Schiffer is packed full of wearable patriotism! There are hundreds of pins and jewelry from throughout our nation's history pictured in this lovely book. They have found gorgeous jewelry from the early 20th Century onward, as well as items you can find today. I love this book because it has given me some good ideas for things to look for when I want to purchase a bit of patriotic jewelry for myself. There is a lot of inspiration in there! This book is a perfect gift for any patriotic friend or family member, or a really nice treat for yourself!

I love looking at different jewelry. I am always looking for new pieces to wear when I go out on the town. I love how this book showcases the patriotic jewelry that has a wonderful patriotic motif. My living room is decorated in a patriotic theme, but I never thought about turning my love of patriotic items into jewelry. I love finding different patriotic items to include in my house and have never thought of purchasing them to wear. The descriptions were helpful as well. I am now going to be on the lookout for more items like the ones I found in this book. I can't wait to begin my collection. If you know of someone who loves collecting patriotic items, this book would be a wonderful addition.
