Tasty Tidbits: The Ellington

The Ellington was featured previously in Terrific Takeout:

Their website tells us:
ForThe Ellington, Glenda Sansone and Andrew Breslin have collaborated with husband and wife interior design team, Benjamin and Erin Kay of Adorn Designs to create this “casual and relaxing, country kitchen style meets shabby chic spot.”

The 1,200 square foot Ellington features walls reminiscent of a white washed rustic barn and the Adorn Design team has also utilized sage penny tiles for the front panels of the bar.

All table tops including the bar top are stained in a honey-glaze leaving a rich but weathered textured wood plank look. Three large antique mirrors are dotted across the room to help show-off the oxidized tin ceilings throughout the space.

A huge wrought iron pendant chandelier hangs proudly in the center of the room, complemented by delicate wire glass pendant lights above the bar and country-style wall sconces around the columns. The columns in the space frame out the grayish blue distressed bi- folding doors that surround this corner location. When all the doors are folded open, guests will have great views and can enjoy the balmy summer evenings in great comfort. The Ellington will also feature seasonal outdoor seating.

Chef Lester Almanzar had previously served as Chef at Scoozi Events NYC; and prior to that he was Chef de Partie at Dovetail on the Upper West Side. Almanzar was also attached to The Punch Bowl located in Mayfair, London, and owned by Guy Ritchie, the director behind “Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels” and “Sherlock Holmes.”

Almanzar has created a “modern gastropub menu” heavy on American and European flavors – Signature dishes include: “Butternut Squash Risotto (with pickled pears, arugula and queso fresco)” and “Cumberland Sausage and Mash, served with onion gravy and braised red cabbage” Sausages will be supplied by the traditional West Village based British food store, Myers and Keswick.

Allen Katz, Director of Mixology & Spirits Education for Southern Wine & Spirits of New York has tailored a drinks menu brimming with clever craft cocktails mixed with classic drinks “with a twist.” Katz is also the co-founder of the New York Distilling Company in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, where he produces Perry’s Tot – Navy Strength Gin & Dorothy Parker – American Gin and a forthcoming rye whiskey. Expect Katz’s abovementioned creations including craft beers to be featured on the drinks menu.

We look forward to telling you more!!!!
