NHL Peachy Takes a Trip to Washington D.C. for the Capitals Vs. the Senators! The Ottawa Senators Won 6-4

Recently, we took a trip to Washington to see the Capitals play the Ottawa Senators last Wednesday, November 27, 2013.  Though we've been to the last arena in Landover, Maryland we had yet to visit the Verizon Center before and we can say emphatically that it is beautiful. We think the Capitals made a good choice in moving their venue to the city itself and we think the location is brilliant, especially since you can dine at Nopa before or after the game -it's across the street at 800 F and Nopa will absolutely enhance your game experience (stay tuned for that review.)
Previously, NHL Peachy took a trip to Boston when they played the Florida Panthers a month ago:
The Capitals had a slow start and early on we wanted them to win more offensive zone faceoffs and possess the puck for longer durations of time, and follow up on their shots on goal trying to tip in the puck but their forechecking was not so strong.  There were some close opportunities but no one was at the net to follow up...Finally at 12:10 Fehr scored from Latta (Latta excels at faceoffs!) and it was a beautifully orchestrated goal.
Whoever came up with the slogan "America's Hockey Capital" for this team-good job, we like it.
The second half of the first period proved to be the most exciting part of the game if you are a Capitals fan as by the conclusion of the period it was 3-1 Washington with more Washington goals by Johansson (on a power play) and Laich.  By the end of the first we were wishing that Congress had the work ethic of the Capitals....by the way Tip and the Gipper is required reading for all of you going to Washington or there already!  We saw a lot of real teamwork, cooperation and successful accurate passing going on.
However, this was not to last.  Phillips had a ringer of a goal early on in the second for Ottawa that was beautiful if you are a fan of hockey.  The Senators looked like they were walking right into the net effortlessly scoring and by the end of the second Ottawa had it tied at three.  Ovechkin had a lovely opportunity during the second that we were hoping to say -he shoots, he scores!- about however there was a penalty for too many men on the ice.  Quel dommage.
By the third the crowd chimed in with "Ref you suck" and it was clear the cookie was not crumbling the way the Capitals would have liked it to.  The screen showed clips from the movie Miracle, which was a nice inspirational touch.  Ottawa proved to have more vigor and cohesion overall and though Carlson got a goal for Washington in the third, Ottawa put more goals away sealing in the 6-4 victory.
