Our column Advantageous Auctions has over 1,000 posts and is avidly read by our readers; calling all auction lovers: Trance is for you.  We have a significant audience in the UK and Ireland and have published on many BBC productions (Sherlock-they could have used you in some parts of Trance!) and are pleased to expand our horizons to now include Fox Searchlight.  Trance we understand was filmed in both London and Kent, and the cinematography is absolutely brilliant including at the Victoria and Albert Museum.  The Ministry of Sound was one of the settings and is the first club in London Peachy ever went to. (thank you Kelly!)

Aerial photography, particularly the shots of highways, was incredible as well as the action scenes when the robbery was taking place, and eventually the final getaway.  It's clear a lot of thought went into the behind-the-scenes work that must have taken hours which came together in seconds alone on the big screen.  The lighting was also central to creating the bespoke eeriness that set the mood for certain scenes.

Starting off at Delancy's auction house, the psychological thriller captivates your imagination right from the start as you are drawn into an intelligent, complex story line of smoke bombs, drills and procedures, computer smashing and ultimately robbery, which sets the stage for the movie.  Is a piece of art worth a human life?  Some might say it depends on that piece of art!  Is putting stolen property in a bright yellow Selfridges bag the thing to do?!?!?  Or is it even in there.....

James McAvoy plays the lead-Simon- and his amazing Scottish accent is reason enough to watch this movie.  But the complex plot and the execution of acting by McAvoy are the best reasons.  As the drama and action unfold, you'll be left wondering which parts are dream sequences, which parts are real, and most of all, which alliances are true.  Certainly the last one some of the characters themselves may be wondering...

Memory and hypnotism play a starring role as well.  Vincent Cassel is delightfully evil and gave us the creeps from the moment he appeared on the screen.  But it's hard to hate someone with a pool in their bedroom for too long.  The intensity of interaction between characters and the fantastic word choice by the screenwriters will have you in quite the trance as well as the mindgames galore ensue.  Tone of voice in delivery is also key at climaxes of scenes and will give you hints as to what is happening so do listen closely.

A great visual is "Chanson D'Amour" in the French countryside, a particularly inviting scene for everyone in the Northeast right now as we are about to be hit by yet another cold spell which is perfect movie-watching weather.

Be careful about parking your red Alpha Romeo near Marble Arch and a final word-do be certain your insured Rembrandt is under lock and key prior to hitting play on your Trance Blu-Ray...just take our word for it.  The popcorn will settle better in your stomach that way, and then relax, put your feet up, and set your mind to focus for the complex plot.

Whom You Know Recommends Trance and we could not be more thrilled to kick off our coverage of Fox Searchlight and Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment.

From ACADEMY AWARD®-Winning director Danny Boyle* (Slumdog Millionaire) comes an “exhilarating brain-twister” (New York Post)! After a blow to the head during his attempted robbery of a $27 million Goya painting, Simon (James McAvoy, X-Men: First Class), a fine-art auctioneer, awakens to find that the painting – and his memory – are missing. Forced by his ruthless crime partner Franck (Vincent Cassel, Black Swan) to undergo hypnosis, Simon enters into a deadly love triangle with his seductive hypnotist (Rosario Dawson, Sin City). As the plot twists, the line between reality and dream becomes blurred in this fast-paced, unpredictable, “sexy and suspenseful” (Empire) thriller.
