As we gear up for the phenomenal movie The Lunchbox released here by Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, Whom You Know is seeking out the best Indian food to feature (not easy to find, we can attest to!) and we found a promising place that's a new hotspot, The Drunken Munkey, which opened in November 2013 which is among the best Indian cuisine we've seen in New York, particularly that Shrimp Curry.  (We believe the best in Indian cuisine in America is in Washington, D.C. by the hugely talented Ashok Bajaj at The Bombay Club-stay tuned- and we look forward to trying Rasika as well.)  You've probably never seen the above before; we had not at least.  It is Paani Puri, street food.  Plated in an escargot dish, the Paani Puri has a nice satisfying crunch of crispy flour puff which contains aloo and chick-pea chaat and tamarind mint water.  It's refreshing on a hot day, we imagine.
As you know, Peachy always orders a green salad at dinner, however there's not that option here so we aimed for a vegetable.  This is the crispy okra served with onions, tomato and chat masala and it looks fantastic on that plate.  The appetizer we tried was Chicken Malai Tikka:

The chicken was fresh and satisfying and if you eat in the restaurant, it's served with a ginger, garlic and nutmeg marinade.   We like how this venue is inspired by colonial British India, and that reminds us of India Hicks, granddaughter of Earl and Countess Mountbatten of Burma. Lord Mountbatten was the last Viceroy to India, and gave the country their independence in 1947. Hence India’s name, being the last grandchild. (Check out our interview with Mover and Shaker India Hicks of Crabtree & Evelyn (click here for their latest).)

To us, the star of the show without a doubt was the Malabar Coastal Shrimp Curry.  Owner Arun Mirchandani tells us everything is made from scratch and are his mother's recipes.  Lime, ginger and garlic marinade highlight these fantastic shrimp along with tomato and onion sauce. We will have to go back and try some more of this knockout entree.
