We waited far too long to return to La Mangeoire!  It was first featured in early 2011 in Peachy's Picks, and we were recently reminded of the talents and hospitality of owner Gerard Donato who welcomed us into his French countryside "estate" on Second Avenue.  We were delighted to sip some rose with Gerard and catch up.

We are huge advocates of simplicity done well, and are also green salad enthusiasts-this component is a must in our takeout reviews and should be a must in all meals.  The salad we tried at La Mangeoire is the Coeur de Laitue en Salade, Echalotes Huile d'Olive Viegre and Vinaigre de Vin Rouge.  If you are not a francophile like Ms. Deegan who took six years of French, this means Boston Lettuce Salad, Virgin Olive Oil, Red Wine Vinegar and Shallot Dressing.  The Boston Lettuce could not have been fresher and every satisfying crispy bite enveloped in that refreshing dressing was lovely.

Our favorite component of the meal was the Saumon Fume Maison!!!!!
This was truly divine!  Its full name is: Saumon Fume Maison, Salade de Concombre a l'Aneth which translates to House Smoked Salmon with Cucumber and Dill Salad.  The flavor combination was ideal and these flavors married together expertly.  Every part of this was of the utmost freshness and the Salmon was not too thick and not too thin-just right for Goldilocks Peachy.  The arrangement is gloriously beautiful and remember, we do not photo edit.  This is to the advantage of those that earn their points on presentation like Gerard!
As an entree we tried a slender yet splendid slice of fish - if you happen to be on a diet, see, you can eat out too and enjoy yourself - it is the Filet de Bar de l'Atlantique, Bouillo a la Truffe Petit Pois, Petit Oignons, Macaroni and Chanterelles.  The depth of flavor here was incredible and the Roasted Wild Bass Filet was dressed up superbly with the Black Truffle Broth, Green Peas, Pearl Onions, Macaroni and Chanterelles Mushrooms.  Every bite was decadent and La Mangeoire's cuisine is the perfect escape to the countryside via your stomach, without leaving the East side!
La Mangeoire is Terrific Takeout!
