It is always an exciting day when we find a new restaurant in Manhattan that we like.  If we really love you, we go back again and again and you become a household name of Whom You Know- ask our Primo Rufino at Solera (we have not been recently because we are trying some new spots- great, good and not so much - however, Peachy is exhibiting some Solera garlic shrimp withdrawl symptoms) and we have reviewed enough restaurants now to rotate all the ones we love.  However, we are always looking for new candidates that excel, and Baker & Co. is a new spot you should try.  It's been open since April 2014, and it's owned by our new friend Managing Owner Markus from Italy who owns it along with Elena and Chef Riccardo, both of whom we have not met (yet).  Markus used to play the drums so perhaps he is enjoying our column, New York Notes on music (but mostly on the Grammys).
In our first meeting anywhere, we order an appetizer, a green salad and an entree.  Our green salad we tried at Baker & Co. was the Kale with shaved brussels sprouts, pistachio and pecorino.  It was presented well and was fresh.  This venue earned its name as it used to be a bakery...
We love love love Burrata.  This burrata is from Wisconsin, and is served with speck (cured prosciutto cured in juniper berries) , poached plum and toasted hazelnuts. The burrata itself lived up to all of our creamy dreamy expectations and the accents with it were lovely.  Bien sur, this was our appetizer.
For our entree, we tried the Crystal Valley Farm chicken which proved to be the ultimate in comfort food, and we'd order it again in all its succulence and juicy superb flavor.  It was our favorite part of the meal and the mascarpone-herbs were definitely creative and added ambiance to the dish.  It comes with truffle fries which would have been even better if they were more truffle-y- they were very good with the freshly grated parmesean.  Baker & Co. seems like a serious spot from our initial visit-their flour is imported from Italy just like Markus and their bread is made daily on premises.

Baker & Co. is Terrific Takeout!
