Haute Hotels: The W in Washington, D.C. Celebrates Fashion, Music and Architecture and Brings Style to Washington! Not to mention, Cocktail Culture!

Our favorite aspect of the W, the rooftop bar!
We also loved this lamp and celebrated #renewturn with it.
We are confident our George Washington room lamp has visions of Turn dancing in his head all the time!!!
It's not who you know, it's WHOM YOU KNOW and we are so glad to know Starwood.  The Starwood Hotel brand has been dominating Haute Hotels since 2013, when we worked with the Westin in Boston and then many, many times, the Westin Georgetown, both of which we loved.  Starwood really cares about its guests despite that it is a big corporation, and we were thoughtfully welcomed once we entered our room with a handwritten note and some sweet delicacies.
If you are into Fashion, Music or Architecture especially, you should know that the W in Washington, D.C. shares your interest and philosophy: they are dedicated to style.
The room we stayed in had a black and white decor theme, and please note the visual elements!  The chaise right near the sink is gorgeous, and our room had a feel of one overall room-there was a sliding door to separate the shower/toilet however the sink is outside in the main room.
There is a desk, however, you would be silly to spend time inside working with all of the amazing historical American attractions that Washington has to offer!  (Not to mention the restaurants, which you all should look forward to reading about, especially Martin's Tavern.  Peachy is dining like a President...)  If you want to work, however, this is a perfect little work spot.
The tv and bed were low to the ground.
The bed was super comfortable, and we particularly loved all the pillows.  We tried out every pillow (except for the black one-that's for decoration).  Remember our friend Merrimac?  We are total pillow enthusiasts!
You can control the temperature of the room just to the right of the bed on the wall to the exact degree F your little heart desires.  If you don't like F and prefer C we do believe we saw that setting.  You know we only like F!  We applaud their choice of verbiage on the cover of this book, and we appreciate the bottled water:
Before we arrived, the W emailed us a room description:
• Spectacular Non-smoking, Smoke-free
• 20 Sq.m/215 Sq.ft - 25 Sq.m/270 Sq.ft
• Secured Elevator Access
• W Signature Bed
• Shower Only
• Bliss Bath Products
We love their rules; we hate all smoking and feel it should be banned in every public place in the USA also.
A comfortable robe is thoughtfully hung right by the shower door, which swings both in and out, an element we applaud.
The light inside the closet and the mirror are excellent elements employed in this design.
Before we unpacked, it looked like this:
Your lighting fixture above the sink!
We loved our room window and especially the floor length drapes.  These definitely block out all the light and are fantastic!
They don't just say they are into architecture, they execute it!  We love the design at the top of the wall all around the room: classy, white, neat and clean.
At our request, the W put a refrigerator in our room.  You know who always has leftovers...to enjoy.
It is really gorgeous at night.  Your eye should go to the top of these pictures because that's where the rooftop bar is.  All dining here is owned by the W, and there is no food and beverage department because there is a BEVERAGE and food department!  We did not sip a cocktail at every cocktail bar but did check them all out.  We surmise we'd love the scotch bar in the winter (it's hard to get excited about scotch in 100 degree humidity.)
"It's the greatest location in Washington, D.C.," General Manager Meade Atkeson tells Whom You Know. "We are the hippest hotel. W focuses on design, fashion and music. We frequently do live music in POV (Point of View) and we often do not charge for it, so you can see the up and coming bands. You don't have to be a hotel guest or make a reservation to see the groups that we have up here. There's always something going on. We have six bars throughout the hotel because it's all about cocktail culture. We're good for conferences. We're good for individual travel. This is the only W in Washington, D.C. and it began in 2009. It's 11 stories which I believe is the maximum height in Washington [there is a law about nothing being higher than the Washington Monument.]"
As far as design and style goes, we loved the black and white tiled floor in the lobby, referred to at the W as the Living Room.  There are a lot of specific words that the W uses as a brand that supersede the common terms as in this example.  There is a lot of attention to detail, and there is coffee in the morning in the Living Room and refreshing flavored water in the afternoon.
Our favorite was the George Washington Lamp.  Unfortunately, Washington was born too early to stay at the W so he stays at it this way.
In the elevators, look at the ceiling because there are constellations!  The elevator mat changes saying Good Morning, Good Afternoon, Good Evening etc!
This is the view from the rooftop bar.  It is absolutely packed and rocking at night.
We were told by the W:
NIGHTLIFE SPOTLIGHT
W Washington, D.C. is the place to see and be seen, both during the day and in the evening. Monday through Wednesday we offer a relaxing vibe; however, Thursday through Sunday we offer a vibrant atmosphere that includes a DJ spinning and frequent live musical performances until 2AM. Hotel guests have the insider access and are always invited to our events. If you would like to reserve a table with bottle service, please let us know and we’ll have our VIP Hostess contact you.

POV Dress Code: Casual Sophistication - Please no athletic wear, baseball caps, flip flops, tank tops or sneakers. Collared shirts preferred.

Also be advised that after 9pm on Friday and Saturday, we ask all of our guests to present their room key to enter the hotel and lifts. If you wish to visit our celebrated Rooftop Bar, POV, the entrance is located on level LL after 9 pm, where hotel guests will enjoy preferred access.
You will also find it interesting to note that Killing Monica #killingmonica chose this location for the Washington book event!

When you get up in the morning to check out the Washington Monument, literally steps away, with that monument behind you the W looks like this looking up 15th Street.
