It's not who you know.
It's WHOM YOU KNOW we have been telling you for nearly nine years!

Culinary King Sal Scognamillo, author and Peachy

Whom You Know first featured Patsy's Italian restaurant in March 2009, fewer than two months after we started:

Patsy's Italian Family Cookbook is the latest and greatest work inbetween two covers by Culinary King Sal Scognamillo, and you all should be asking Santa for it (Santa, see Amazon click above.)  Is it called family because after you eat the Manicotti you think you are related to it?  Is it called family because you bring your family there?  (Peachy's Dad loves Patsy's.)  No, it is called family because you will feel like family when you visit.  Before many of us knew Ben Stiller, Ben Stiller knew Patsy's you will see in the fantastic foreword of this cookbook.

This book is absolutely perfect for anyone that lives further than walking distance to Patsy's because you can try to replicate what Sal does so you do not starve being far away from West 56th street; he is not at all a smug chef who will not reveal his secrets: he is happy to share his talents with the world comprehensively!  214 pages of glorious photography coupled with brilliantly crafted recipes will challenge your culinary talents to stack up to Patsy's dishes.  The difficulty is a wide range-everything from meatballs to Steak Oreganata.  We know you can do meatballs.

However, if you do live walking distance from Patsy's, it is also a great book for your kitchen or coffee table to show your fabulous taste in restaurants.  It is not a cookbook of just how to's: it contains touching memories of family pictures and stories that will delight you and get you even more excited to go back to Patsy's...and eat more manicotti.  The history of Patsy's is just as fantastic as the food and the pictures you see of Sal and his myriad of star-studded pals (have you seen our Mover and Shaker picture of the week column!?!?) will entertain you too.

Sal's commentary before each recipe adds value to this as a serious cookbook, and Patsy's is absolutely not glitz and glamour with no substance: it is all about the quality substance and that is what makes everyone, people that want to be under the radar and people that want to be front and center want to go to Patsy's in the first place.  We have commented on their excellent cuisine for many years.

It's time to channel your inner Sal Scognamillo...and see if you can find the picture that Frank Sinatra took of Sal's grandparents from the stage of the Fontainebleau Hotel in Miami!  Where else can you find a cookbook with photography by Frank Sinatra?!

PATSY'S ITALIAN FAMILY COOKBOOK BY #WHOMYOUKNOW CULINARY KING AND MOVER AND SHAKER SAL SCOGNAMILLO earns our Highest Recommendation.

Patsy's Restaurant, so famous for its classic Neapolitan Italian food that Frank Sinatra used to fly his favorite dishes from its kitchen to his gigs, has had three chefs since it was founded in 1944: Patsy, his son Joe, and his grandson Sal Scognamillo. The three passed down family recipes, invented great new twists on beloved classics, and emphasized giving their diners-many of them celebrities-exactly what they wanted to eat.

Patsy's Italian Family Cookbook features recipes we really want to eat-and can easily make at home, including:

- Meatballs!
- Pasta with Lentils
- Penne alla Vodka with Shrimp
- Pork Scaloppine alla Vodka
- Chicken Pizzaola
- Chicken Liver Cacciatore
- Bass Puttanesca
- Stuffed Veal Chop
- Patsy's Famous Onion Relish
- Stuffed Zeppole
- Tiramisu
- Lemon Ricotta Cheesecake

A big, warm, beautiful Italian cookbook with full color throughout, Patsy's Italian Family Cookbook is a great book for those who know the restaurant, and the nationally distributed sauce and pasta line, but also for those who love classic Italian.

“As a kid, Patsy's always seemed fancy to me: a place where the waiters were impeccably dressed, and everyone paid incredible attention to detail. But despite its formality, the overwhelming feeling I got whenever we visited Patsy's was the warmth, and the way we were always made to feel special. Everyone who came to Patsy's for dinner--famous or not--was treated like family.” —Ben Stiller, from the Foreword

CHEF SAL SCOGNAMILLO grew up in Patsy's Italian Restaurant, where he learned every aspect of the business's operation from his father (Joe) and grandfather (Patsy). He was named Executive Chef in 1985, upon his father's "retirement" from the kitchen. Under Sal's supervision, the Patsy's name has earned national brand-name recognition via their successful line of pasta sauces and gourmet Italian delicacies.
