Best escargot we have had in a while!!!!

It's not who you know, it's WHOM YOU KNOW and we have known La Sirene downtown by owner Didier Pawlicki for years.  His son, Executive Chef Lyon, has been in town from Paris for the past year working hard and working smart to make La Sirene Upper West Side a success and we are pleased to announce it has joined the ranks of Peachy's Picks.
It was last featured in the summer of 2018:
and was first featured earlier last year:
Lyon is the best young chef in New York and anyone that thinks they have proven themselves and are sitting on their laurels, watch out because he keeps getting better.
We started with the Salade du Marche: Mixed greens salad with radish, green apple and diced tomato.  We EVEN LIKED THE SALAD DRESSING made just for us: Evoo, Soy Sauce and Lemon Juice.
The French Onion Soup is to-die-for.  The swiss cheese is amazing in combination with the onions and breadcrumbs amalgamating in winter goodness that will make your day.  Lyon personally aerates the cheese, achieving optimal flavor.  He is extremely detail-oriented and his talent will wow you.
 An action shot:
We were told that the steak tartare is tops, and we certainly liked it.  Of course it is cold so this time of year we'd suggest it on a milder day.

Steak tartare is served with mesclun and toasted bread and is a bespoke concoction of cocktail sauce, ketchup, homemade mayonnaise, paprika and cognac in perfect proportion that of course joins the carnivorous part.  Capers, pickles and onions also come to this party.
Admire the escargots and pretend you can smell them because the scent is deliciously intoxicating.
We loved these so much it looked like the dish had been through the dishwasher after we used the french bread to indulge in every last aspect of this garlic gloriousness.  Didier should be super proud of his son Lyon because these keep getting better and better and the half dozen escargots will light up your palate in a big way.  They completely excel in this classic and you have to have it.  Also the presentation in the shell is a nice touch.

If you've been reading us avidly you know we say the French are the best at mussels and you can have them one of five ways at La Sirene UWS.  A total fragrant magnificent option are the Marinieres: steamed in white wine and fresh herbs, a total classic.  They are fresh and you will be ravished with their full flavor.
The Codfish is a special right now and we love the visual green pop!  Teamed up with a lovely watercress coulis (inbetween a puree and a soup), the Cod is one of the best fish dishes we've had this year.  The French eat their fish with a spoon.  Breadcrumbs, parsley and garlic enhance the cod itself to culminate in a winning entree special you should jump on if it's on the menu when you visit.

Finally, the carnivorous entree we selected was the Frenched Rack of Lamb with white wine rosemary and Truffle au Jus.  The Truffle au Jus completely makes this dish and steps it up tremendously in just the right amount, making it tender and juicy!  The rosemary and white wine are secondarily amazing and round out the flavor tremendously culminating in a succulent winter wonderland on your palate.
