#NewYorkNotes #LegalPeachy @RecordingAcad #Politics RECORDING ACADEMY™ SHARES COMMENTS MADE TO THE COPYRIGHT OFFICE ON THE MMA COLLECTIVE APRIL 23, 2019

On April 22, the Recording Academy™ submitted comments to the Copyright Office on the "Designation of Mechanical Licensing Collective and Digital Licensee Coordinator." Below is a statement from the Recording Academy regarding these comments.

The Recording Academy appreciates the leadership of both the American Music Licensing Collective (AMLC) and Mechanical Licensing Collective (MLC) and respects their submissions to be the new Collective. After careful review, the Academy believes the MLC is best equipped to run the Collective. However, additional information is necessary regarding accurate data matching and songwriter outreach to ensure every songwriter is properly paid for their work. The Copyright Office anticipated the need for applicants to "supplement their initial submission" and we encourage them to seek more information in these areas.
