In our eleven year history, there has never been more time for Peachy or collectively anyone else (unless you are a healthcare worker maybe) to read. We have spent most of the time reading the classics, because to be honest most of what's new can't compete and doesn't impress us.

Walk the Wire impressed us.

And, Baldacci had the good sense to quote Twain on page 68. Respect for history matters.

We've been interested in the latest and greatest from Baldacci for quite some time now, and among his newest, Walk the Wire is the best. The plot perfectly unwound with us able to predict none of it, the characters are typically brilliant and this time it took us on vacation to North Dakota, which we know nothing about. (North Dakota tourism, did you place this?!)  With our recent affection for Kevin Costner's Yellowstone which is a state over in Montana, this to us seems to fit right in to what we are paying attention to at the moment.  For the geographically-challenged, North Dakota is one state closer to Manhattan (which should be its own state.  Peachy will be mayor).  And no, this is not the London we are usually talking about.

Our favorite character in this book is without a doubt B.U.D. so crack one open as you crack open this book because Baldacci is virtually saying: This Bud's for you.

In terms of word choice, the Baldacci vocabulary is sophisticated enough to rapture you without you needing to constantly use your dictionary: he achieves the perfect readable balance.   There is one exception however on page 166.

Big themes of morality and what communes and government can do to a community play a part in Walk the Wire, but do they decide the outcome?  You'll have to see.  You'll learn a lot about fracking. Read, baby, read and drill into this hot hardcover.  We never knew what spikes could do and learned that SPIKE is much more than Snoopy's cousin with a cactus.

What's staged?
What's not staged?
How can you tell?
You can count on the fact that you will be constantly guessing and need to read carefully.

Just when you think you've guessed correctly, twists and turns prove your imagination is losing and Baldacci again has worked his magic avec savoir faire.

And, your Pooh Bear will be impressed with the hue of the book...!  Also it will appeal to all Boston Bruins and Pittsburgh Penguins fans.  In a world divided on common sense, it makes sense to read this pronto as it is the best new book on the market right now and you all will agree.  Bravo Baldacci.

Walk the Wire has earned Whom You Know's Highest Recommendation.

Amos Decker—the FBI special agent with a perfect memory—returns to solve a gruesome murder in a booming North Dakota oil town in WALK THE WIRE [Grand Central Publishing; April 21, 2020; $29 Hardcover] the newest thriller in David Baldacci’s #1 New York Times bestselling Memory Man series.

When Amos Decker and his FBI colleague Alex Jamison are called to London, North Dakota, they instantly sense that the thriving fracking town is ripe for trouble. The promise of a second gold rush has attracted an onslaught of newcomers all hoping for a windfall, and the community is growing faster than housing can be built. The sudden boom has also brought a slew of problems with it, including drugs, property crimes, prostitution—and now murder.

Decker and Jamison are ordered to investigate the death of a young woman, Irene Cramer, whose body was expertly autopsied and then dumped in the open—which is only the beginning of the oddities surrounding the case. As Decker and Jamison dig into Irene’s life, they are shocked to discover that the woman who worked as a prostitute by night was also a teacher for a local religious sect by day—a sect operating on land once owned by a mysterious government facility that looms over the community.

London is a town replete with ruthless business owners, shady government officials, and religious outsiders, all determined to keep their secrets from coming out. When other murders occur, Decker will need his extraordinary memory and detective skills, and the assistance of a surprising ally, to root out a killer and the forces behind Cramer’s death… before the boom town explodes.
