It's never been who you know, it's WHOM YOU KNOW and we know Amarjit Saggu, Founder and Owner of Javitri, a smashing Indian hotspot just steps away from shopping mecca Bloomingdales (we love that Bloomingdales follows us on X and of course we follow them!). Amarjit co-owns Javitri with his dear old dad, Ikval "Sunny" Saggu, whom we were also delighted to see this visit. There are a lot of restaurants we would not go to for reasons too long to mention, there are some places we go to try out that are not good enough to publish on but of those we have published on, you will see that there are one-hit wonders. Today we are pleased to announce that Javitri is not one of them! This is our second visit, and Javitri is two for two: they were previously published on in 2024. Peachy Deegan's favorite food this visit was definitely the Tandoori Salmon, an appetizer shown above. We think it should be an entree. Its outstanding flavor from the fire pit won us over. Below, another hot appetizer you should try is the tantalizing Amritsari (city in India) Fish Fry of Sea Bass partying with green chili chutney and ajwain spice.
From the Jodhpuri Dal of Yellow Lentils above to the Dal Bukhara of the Black variety below, Javitri has the legumes rising to higher echelons. Both are the ultimate in delicious comfort food and hit the spot splendidly, and both owners are masters of hospitality and greeted us in tandem smiles the minute we arrived. It's clear they take tremendous family pride in Javitri and your culinary pursuits here will taste that much better because of their tremendous care and dedication to your experience.
The wine menu is also terrific influenced by new world wines including Napa Valley as well as standout selections from France and Italy. Peachy Deegan drank iced coffee because it was quite hot and she loves caffeine! Amarjit makes a great one and we also commend the cool metal straws. They show us how detail-oriented Javitri is.
Hariyalki Kebab will invigorate your senses with spicy green marinated chicken with mild spices. We believe this will be universally loved and it's Javitri's new version of the Hari Mirch Chicken Tikka: only the name has changed we are told. You will not find green salads here but you should instead consider Subz Tandoori: Grilled Seasonal Vegetables. We met Cauliflower, Broccoli, and Red Pepper festively dancing with paneer cheese! They were simply amazing and you must try them.
Chicken Tikka Masala is a triumphant popularity in Indian cuisine and if you are new to Indian, we suggest you start here. The succulent tandoor smoked chicken tikka is just resplendent in the luxurious cashew cream sauce that will wow you tremendously. Yes, you ought to have this!
There are eight Naan (bread) choices at Javitri: we chose Cheese! This is unique and captivating and is stuffed with cheddar, mozzarella and amul cheese and is absolutely delicious. The Onion Kulcha which is stuffed slightly is another bread to love and we might like it the best. Both go so well with the Chicken Tikka Masala or whatever your little heart desires and they are available a la carte.
Tandoori Broccoli is an entree that should appeal to you if you are not a fish or meat eater. It's mild yet invigorating and naturally we love all of the green hue, Peachy's favorite color. The broccoli flavor will make you WANT to eat your vegetables with the divine yogurt marinade and the green chili chutney steps it up. Peachy's second favorite edible was the Chicken Biriyani! Last time we had the shrimp version to be different but we historically have had the most of the chicken variety across the board and find this to be quite competitive and we rejoiced in its spicy excellence of saffron-infused rice beautifully balanced by the tender chicken of premium white meat only. Caramelized onions and cilantro elevate this dish. Also enjoy the art on the walls by the late Indian artist M. F. Husain.
Amarjit and Sunny Saggu have hit another home run with Javitri and you should go discover it for yourself!
