READ THIS: ALL THE THINGS YOU ARE: The Life of Tony Bennett By David Evanier
How many of you know that Tony Bennett's paintings are in the Smithsonian? Once you read All the Things You Are's Introduction you'll know...this book, told from the point of view of the author (not Tony himself) recounts a life that is full, vivacious, talented and collegial as currently referenced by his second duets album...we love both the first and second duets albums by Tony, especially his duet with Lady Gaga in the second. And who gave him a dozen red roses each time he wrote a new song? Read this book and you'll find out.

I Left My Heart in San Francisco, Rags to Riches, and All the Things You Are are part of the American musical lexicon but never before has a biography been written about the golden voice behind those classics. Now from Wiley, publishers of Heaven and Hell by Don Felder and Everybody Wants Some: The Van Halen Saga by Ian Christie arrives the first complete biography of legendary crooner, Tony Bennett.
Among America's greatest entertainers such as Frank Sinatra, Judy Garland, Ray Charles, and Sammy Davis Jr., Tony Bennett alone is still here and at the top of his game. For the first time in All the Things You Are: The Life of Tony Bennett; (July 2011; ISBN: 978-0-470-52065-9; Cloth / 352 Pages / $26.96) award-winning biographer David Evanier reveals the toughness, integrity, humanity, imagination and courage behind Bennett’s gentle, smiling persona. He traces Bennett’s impoverished New York City childhood, liberating a concentration camp and fighting for civil rights, his first chart-topping hits, his devastating personal and career battles and addiction in the 1970's, his stunning comeback and emergence as a musical statesman, America's troubadour, role model and mentor, and unmatched interpreter of the American songbook -- Superstar.
All the Things You Are includes the following:
· An intimate, candid, and unvarnished look at the amazing life of one of America's most enduring musical icons
· Insights based on dozens of author interviews with Bennett's family members, agents, musicians, composers and managers, and experts on the last fifty years of popular music
· Fresh stories involving leading figures and entertainers of the twentieth-century, including Cary Grant, Frank Sinatra, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Fiorello LaGuardia, Martin Luther King, Jr., Ray Charles, Dean Martin, Billie Holliday, and more
Whether you've been a Tony Bennett fan for decades or are just discovering him, All the Things You Are will deepen your understanding of this hugely gifted entertainer and his music.
About the Author:

Small Screen Scenes: KAT DENNINGS AND BETH BEHRS STAR IN "2 BROKE GIRLS," A NEW COMEDY BY "SEX AND THE CITY" EXECUTIVE PRODUCER MICHAEL PATRICK KING AND COMEDIAN WHITNEY CUMMINGS, HIT SHOW OF THE FALL SEASON SAYS WHOM YOU KNOW
This is the show you should be watching this season even if you only watch one show says Peachy Deegan. Start your 2012 off right and start watching this show! We believe it is on at 8:30pm on Mondays on CBS now although it debuted at a different time slot...we are waiting to hear back from CBS, our favorite network. The pilot press release:
Experienced waitress Max Black meets her new co-worker, former rich-girl Caroline Channing, and puts her skills to the test at an old but re-emerging Brooklyn diner. Despite her initial distaste for Caroline, Max eventually softens and the two team up for a new business venture, on the series premiere of 2 BROKE GIRLS, Monday, Sept. 19(9:30-10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.
2 BROKE GIRLS is a comedy about two young women waitressing at a greasy spoon diner who strike up an unlikely friendship in the hopes of launching a successful business - if only they can raise the cash. Sassy, streetwise Max Black works two jobs just to get by, one of which is waiting tables during the night shift at the retro-hip Williamsburg Diner. Sophisticated Caroline Channing is an uptown trust fund princess who's having a run of bad luck that forces her to reluctantly give waitressing a shot. At first, Max sees Caroline as yet another in a long line of inept servers she must cover for, but she's surprised to find that Caroline has as much substance as she does style. When Caroline discovers Max's knack for baking amazing cupcakes, she sees a lucrative future for them, but they first need to raise the start-up money. While they save their tips, they'll stay at the restaurant, working with Oleg, an overly flirtatious Russian cook; Earl, a 75-year-old kool-kat cashier; and Han Lee, the new, eager-to-please owner of the diner. Working together, these two broke girls living in one expensive city might just find the perfect recipe for their big break.

Holiday Peachy: New Year’s FITNESS Resolutions By Mover and Shaker Laurie Towers
This is the time of year, that in between moving around furniture to accommodate family volume, making mental notations of what's not present in the refrigerator for our celebrated recipes, we silently, sometimes outwardly, make our promises for the year to come. Pledged in earnest and with every intention of fulfillment, why does it take a wrong turn as we shake the New Years Eve confetti from out hair? Many reasons. Those of us who "drank the Koolaid" as far as fitness being a way of life know how to make it a part of our daily routine.
Since logic is the only true method in approaching this, here are some suggestions on keeping health a top priority for the New Year.
- joining a gym is on the top of the list as it is every year, but what if that is not financially feasible in these economic times?
- Walking or biking to work if at all possible, or getting off a stop or two before you need. Weather permitting this is a good way to jump start your metabolism a bit and engage in a bit of functional fitness.
-Same rules apply here with the elevators in your building. Unless there are specific restrictions placed upon you joint-wise, walking up as well as down the stairs certainly burns more calories than pressing the "up" button.
- Invite a friend to engage in an outing of a walk on the weekends, or to join you in a sport of shared enjoyment. As we are social beings, the incentive of a "buddy" joining us, triggers our innate sense of camaraderie and makes the undertaking of any task far more enjoyable.
-Bring your food to the office. By doing this you will ensure portion control as well as knowing the preparation and ingredients involved and will have a better hand on caloric restriction if need be.
-Variety of activities. Even the most enjoyable things and events can become routine and monotonous, especially cardiovascular activity. A switch up in your work out plan can be just the shot in the arm you need. If you tend to like biking and walking, if at all possible do it outdoors so that your surroundings supply ample stimulation and create a better backdrop to whatever you are doing..
- Accountability in working out...this is where the buddy system really shows its worth. You are far more likely to show up to a workout if you know someone is relying on you to be there. As you wouldn't necessarily want to give up in front of an audience, you will more likely get there even if you didn't want to and create a more seamless routine because of it.
- Substitution in cooking. Especially when preparing those wonderful baked goods and pies, one might want to substitute a healthier sweetener such as honey, cinnamon or brown sugar, instead of the syrups, extracts and sugars that allow the calories to mount.
-Holiday parties...there is nothing harder than trying to reduce the amount you are consuming when all that egg nog and fruitcake keeps whistling you over every time you pass by. Your best bet is to eat a bit before you arrive, so that you won’t arrive famished and tend to eat on impulse rather than good sense.
-Realistic goal setting. To achieve a desired goal you have to be able to meet it reasonably. If you set the pole way too high there is no way to launch yourself over, and you tend to either sabotage the act, or walk away in defeat. Create a lifestyle change in diet and exercise rather than a harsh and sharp contrast to your present routine: something that has the potential to become a way of life that you can easily adapt to long term. It takes away a lot of the anxiety-induced binge eating born of depravation. Keeping in mind that it’s perfectly natural to want to have a "cheat day" and indulge in the worse foods possible. We all do. The key is to use that day as a reward for a well balanced nutritional investment you abided by the rest of the week.
The worst part of any resolution is the feeling that you have failed your attempt . Allowing yourself flexible and reasonable goals will let you become your own cheerleader and continue a healthier past long after we put our party hats away......

Not only is this a beautiful handcrafted piece but nothing can compare. This scooper is very sturdy your coffee will go nowhere once it's in the scooper. This is a wonderful product to have in your kitchen or give it as a gift. I don't know what I'd do without it!
We love products that are made in the U.S.A. and that is one of the many reasons we love Jonathan's Spoons. If you are looking for a unique gift there is nothing finer than beautiful kitchen utensils. These gorgeous solid wooden spoons are not only works of art but great for cooking with too. These amazing spoons are made from solid wood and all done by hand. We love the Blackened Cherry Coffee Scoop Spoon. We plan on using ours during the holiday season to impress our guests who stop by for some tea & coffee. Great for gifts and making your kitchen beautiful, we love Jonathan's Spoons!
One of the most important things to have while making coffee is a good scoop. Good measuring (and good coffee beans as well) ensure a great cup of coffee. Since I'm very serious about my coffee being great, I was psyched when I saw Jonathan's flame blackened coffee scoop! The spoon has a gorgeous charcoal-blackened finish that gives it a very sleek look. And it's super sturdy too! It has a flat bottom to it so it sits on the counter perfectly without spilling. What a great feature that shows the care and detail that goes into Jonathan's products!

HOST OF NEW ART WORLD RECORDS CREATED AT BONHAMS THIS YEAR
The past year (2011) saw a series of art world records broken at Bonhams salerooms round the world. These include:
Chinese Art
Bonhams Hong Kong set a new outright world record for a Chinese snuff bottle on 28 November 2011, at the auction of the celebrated Mary and George Bloch Collection: Part IV at the Island Shangri-La Hotel, Hong Kong. The tiny, yet exquisite, ‘famille-rose’ enamelled glass ‘European-subject’ snuff bottle made in the Imperial Palace workshops in Beijing during the Emperor Qianlong period (1736-1795) measures only 8.07cm high. International bidders in the packed auction room and on the telephone battled the bidding up to a final figure of HK$25.3 million (US$3,328,400; GBP2,108,333). It set a new world record for any Chinese snuff bottle, beating Bonhams own record, established only eighteen months ago.
One of the highest prices achieved at auction for Chinese ceramics was the floral turquoise Qianlong Imperial vase which sold in New Bond St for £9m.
Japanese Art
Not only was the Harriet Szechenyi Collection of Japanese Art the highest grossing single-owner Japanese sale in auction history, but the sale also produced two world records for a netsuke (miniature carving) and an inro (traditional Japanese case consisting of nested boxes). The world record for netsuke sold at auction was broken by lot 14, a stunning late 18th century ivory netsuke of a shishi (lion dog) that realised £265,250, after much enthusiastic bidding in the room and on the telephone.
Other masterpieces within the sale at Bonhams included a superb collection of inro, due to Harriet Szechenyi's later interest in the Japanese art of lacquering. A single case lacquer inro by Shibata Zeshin (lot 316), one of the most famous painters and lacquerers of the 19th Century, also made a new world record selling for £265,250. The previous record for an inro sold at auction was broken by Bonhams in 2010, for an inro by Shibata Zeshin in Part 1 of the Edward Wrangham collection that sold for £162,000.
