Can you imagine Truffle Oil, Long Stem Artichokes, and Wild Mushrooms on a gorgeous pizza at a BAR? There's no need to imagine when you go to Tenth Rail because this dream is a reality. All bars and lounges are not created equally and we only want to frequent those that have the skill to feed us well! Once you eat this pizza you will question why you ever would go to a bar that wouldn't serve it! Tenth Rail w
as first featured in Terrific Takeout:
As they were Terrific, they graduated to Tasty Tidbits:
And now we are pleased to announce they have joined the ranks of Peachy's Picks.
Their pleasing cuisine, upbeat atmosphere, and genuine care exuded by General Manager Elda Auerbach will make your visit to Tenth Rail so worth it.
And may we also point out we find this place very clean, which is not the norm for bars in Manhattan, especially on the west side. Ideal for jaunts near the Javits, Tenth Rail is where you should consider frequenting post-trade show! Owned by Thomas Wolfe, Jean Louis and Harvey Osher, Tenth Rail is an up-and-coming hot spot that started just over a year ago that we think is here to stay.
The pizza was terrific and competitive with hot pizza spots. Every ingredient was fresh and the crust was crispy. If you are going to order only one thing to munch on at Tenth Rail, this is what you should have without a doubt.
The chopped salad is another element of Tenth Rail you should not overlook! It could be a meal in itself and is loaded with chopped lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, radish, fennel, feta cheese and they put the dressing on the side just like Peachy likes it! This trumps many other salads we've had at bars and it was refreshing and delicious.
It was not lost on Peachy that they have an American flag on display! The atmosphere is well-lit with televisions in unassuming spots which is key during the Stanley Cup Playoffs when it is difficult for Peachy to eat without knowing what is going on in the NHL. The music is good and the overall good feeling you get from Tenth Rail will put you in a positive mood.
Peachy Deegan opted for the Curry Shrimp for her entree, a special of the night. Served with rice and vegetables, it had the right amount of spice that had both kick and finesse. She sipped on a Layer Cake Cabernet Sauvignon which was splendid!
And in keeping with the quality of the preceding cuisine, the dessert aspect aimed to please and their standards are high. The Molten Chocolate Cake confirmed their understanding of our classification of chocolate as one of the four food groups and the Bread Pudding was equally convincing.
Wait until you put your fork into this heavenly chocolate treat-it will make you forget about the crazy crowds at the Javits and put you into a state of bliss!
Our esteemed panelist adds:
On the corner of 10th Avenue and 33rd Street lies Tenth Rail, a delightful gem of a bar/restaurant! In an area not known for its dining destinations, Tenth Rail provides a warm, comfortable atmosphere, a great deal of charm, and excellent food! A fairly new addition to NY’s dining scene (it opened in February, 2011), Tenth Rail offers many “bar food” staples like wings, calamari, burgers, and quesadillas, but also boasts terrific salads and more substantial fare, such as pasta dishes and slow cooked brisket. After perusing the menu, Peachy and I decided that the Roasted Artichoke & Mushroom Pizza sounded too good to resist, so we opted to split that as an appetizer. It turns out our hunch was right – this is one of the tastiest starters I’ve had in quite some time! Loaded with perfectly cooked artichoke hearts, mushrooms, and lightly browned cheese, this thin-crust pizza was also made with truffle oil, which was the perfect finishing touch. It came out piping hot, and was a perfect, tasty beginning to our meal.
Next, I opted for the Caesar Salad, which was also delicious. The generous portion could have been a meal in itself (chicken, beef, or shrimp can also be added), and a quite satisfying one at that! The lettuce was crisp and fresh, the dressing was just right, and the Dijon herbed Parmesan croutons were downright addictive! For my main course, I ordered the Chicken Teriyaki, which was one of the evening’s specials. Served with basmati rice and assorted veggies, including carrots, celery, onions, and red peppers, this dish was fantastic!
The chicken was perfectly tender, the teriyaki sauce was pleasantly savory, and the vegetables added great flavor and texture. I chose to accompany my meal with a lovely Sauvignon Blanc, which proved to be an excellent complement to the food. Peachy and I just couldn’t resist trying dessert, since the rest of the meal had been so terrific, and once again, we were quite pleased with what we tasted! We tried the Bread Pudding and the Molten Chocolate Cake, and both were delectable. The bread pudding had hints of cinnamon and was topped with caramel, and the molten chocolate cake was full of warm, rich, chocolate-y goodness! Overall, an outstanding meal! Tenth Rail definitely gets two thumbs up from this panelist!
