Also, the first two episodes of this series earned our highest recommendation:

We recommend watching this series in order.

Epix does a fantastic job of capturing the true humanity of the teams, and the real life issues that affect them, understandably.  The Blackhawks confront feelings about the recent and sudden passing of their equipment manager, and rally together for a win in his memory.  The practice sessions emphasize all of the behind-the-scenes true effort and preparation that goes into the business of hockey, and softer sides are presented like Alex O's mom's Russian cooking (both of his parents were athletes.)

Christmas is celebrated in the Washington locker room, and finally, Manhattan makes an appearance in the series when Washington comes to play the Rangers.  We would have liked to see them have more fun here, however!  Maybe next time, and you know who is available to play tour guide...we were happy to see Joel Ward and his girlfriend skate in Rockefeller Center.
The Blackhawks celebrate Christmas as well, and you'll see the Swedish Christmas party (Swedish people reading us, please tell us where the good Swedish restaurants are in Manhattan we can't find them) and you will even meet a Snow Monkey.

Like Lorde sings about Gladiators, these guys exemplify precisely what she sings about when they lace up and put on their game faces, and in Chicago, the home games have sold out 294 times and counting.  Rivalries come to the forefront: when Washington travels to Pittsburgh, it's Ovechkin vs. Crosby, however, we remember Mario Lemieux and Jaromir Jagr being more dominant than either.

From a cinematography standpoint, Epix has thought of everything.  The plane footage, views, traveling, and overall team spirit is a glorious thing to watch, and remember, you can watch when it's convenient for you, because Epix HD streams online like your own personal hockey footage genie coming out of a bottle!

Hockey is a sport about traditions, and episode three of "Road To The NHL Winter Classic" introduces us to the rituals of the season on and off the ice, in Russian and Swedish, and from the streets of New York to the ski slopes of Vail. Both the Washington Capitals and Chicago Blackhawks enter the Christmas break looking to shrug off emotional losses on the ice by re-connecting with family and friends away from the ice, and re-emerge refreshed and refocused, resulting in wins for both teams as they prepare for the January 1 matchup at Nationals Park.
