Tasty Tidbits: The Boathouse

Whom You Know just loves the boathouse, and what could be better on a hot summer night in Manhattan! The Central Park Boathouse Restaurant was given a massive restoration and improvement by restaurateur Dean Poll after he was awarded the operating rights to this landmark property in 2000. This site, which has been featured in four major motion pictures, is one of the most romantic, scenic spots in all of New York with its terrace dining overlooking Central Park's famous lake and the Manhattan skyline. Executive Chef Anthony Walton offers four different styles of dining including: The Express Cafe/Snack Bar, The Al Fresco Outdoor Tapas Bar & Grill, the Lakeside Dining Room, and picnic baskets to go.

The Boathouse menu changes seasonally and is generally open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Some of the most popular menu items this time of the year include:

---SHRIMP COCKTAIL, FEATURING FOUR JUICY JUMBO, ICED SHRIMP WITH SPECIAL BOATHOUSE COCKTAIL SAUCE AND FRESH HOMEMADE VEGETABLE SLAW, $16

---CHICKEN KABOB, MEATY CHUNKS OF FRESHLY OPEN FLAME GRILLED CHICKEN EMBRACED BY BBQ TOMATOES, AND SHALLOTS, SPRINKLED WITH VINAIGRETTE, $15 (BEEF KABOB ALSO AVAILABLE)

---THE FAMOUS BOATHOUSE CRAB CAKES, SAUTEED WITH REMOULADE SAUCE, $16

Some newer sensational appetizers on the lakeside dining menu include:

---RAW YELLOWFISH TUNA WITH SEA URCHIN SAUCE, DAIKON, AND WASABI GREENS, $14

---HOMEMADE COUNTRY PATE WITH FRISSE SALAD, CUMBERLAND SAUCE, TOAST, COMICHONS, $12

---STEAMED ARTICHOKE,WITH PISTACHIO AND SAUTERNES VINAIGRETTE, $13

Just imagine yourself with a friend or two having one or several of these dishes while sipping a glass of fine wine while in the heart of Central Park overlooking the lake! Peachy Deegan has always loved the Boathouse, even before her Whom You Know days, and looks forward to reviewing it for Whom You Know. Post your comments on your favorite Boathouse experience!
