Top It Off: Ellen Christine Millinery

In 2010, Ellen Christine Millinery will have been open to the public for 15 years.

They make hats, it's as basic as that. Peachy Deegan walked by their store and had to check them out! Working closely with the top stylists in the world, they contribute to major magazines for their editorials, and often make specific pieces for them. We are pleased to feature them on Whom You Know

For the 25 years preceding the retail store, Ellen Christine made hats and wardrobes for the trade only. As an independant, she created costumes for Broadway, cabaret (remember cabaret), films, and industrials. Private clients helped to shove her into the retail business again (She had her first store when she was 17 in Puerto Rico, while she was at the UPR), and the brand began to grow.

Nicoletta Santoro used some of their pieces in an avant-garde layout for Italian Vogue, and the rest, as they say, is history. Her eye is impeccable, and trusted by the industry worldwide, and Ellen Christine feels lucky to have her work used in quite a number of her shoots since then.

Their private customer base includes teachers, lawyers, doctors, politicians, celebutantes, and they still do pieces for Broadway, performers, and industrials.
They have collaborated with designers for their runway (Nicole Miller, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Richie Rich, Jill Stuart, Loris Diran, Catherine Holstein) collections.
Additionally, they make extraordinary bridal headpieces, and veils, and delight in serving the Mothers-of-the-Brides, and Grooms.

The racing season is their favorite time of the year, beginning with the premier race in Dubai, the Kentucky Derby, Ascot and then onto the Belmont, Saratoga, et al. Their customers come from all over the world, since Ellen Christine Millinery seems to be a destination store.

Stylists use their hats, frequently on commission, to add a touch of glamour to a shoot. They were included by Veuve Clicquot as their go-to hat person on the invitations for the recent Polo match on Governor's Island, with Prince Harry. Whom You Know wrote about this event!
