Peachy Deegan recommends IRISSIME - Jacques Fath

We first introduced you to Jacques Fath:

http://www.whomyouknow.com/2009/07/read-this-jacques-fath-by-jeromine.html

Irissime is an exquisite scent that smells as beautiful as the lovely bottle. A brand new scent from the legendary Jacques Fath brand, Irissime has the same superior quality that we are accustomed to with other scents by Fath. Peachy Deegan is too young to have lived in the time of Jacques Fath but she was enlightened by Bernard Naim by reading the book featured above and fortunately, is living at the right time to experience the wonderful fragrances that bear his name. We do wish Jacques Fath was here and was sending us entries for dress of the week, however!

A history of the brand, because you know we love this type of thing:

JACQUES FATH (1912-1954)
In January 1937, at 25, Jacques Fath created his first Couture House in Paris. In this small establishment, he cut and hemmed the garments with the assistance of two workers. The clothes were then presented on a charming model, Genevieve, who would later become his wife.In April 1944, Jacques Fath established his Couture House at 39 Avenue Pierre 1er de Serbie in Paris, where it remained for decades.

1945 marked the year of Fath’s first fashion show. His collections were elegant, feminine and modern. The evening dresses were exquisite dreams: the detail of the cuts, the charm of the wraps and the low necklines continue to inspire today's designers. Jacques Fath began a career that would have made him the challenger of Christian Dior. By 1954, his Company included 700 employees. Fath was dressing movie stars and aristocrats; he was earning worldwide recognition.

He was as well the first to export to the United States, where his name is still recognized today. He began to innovate in all fields; accessories, ready-to-wear, perfumes. In 1945, he launched his first perfume Chasuble and two years later the mythical Iris Gris followed by the ever classic Green Water both by famous perfumer Vincent Roubert. In 1950, he decided to found his fragrance company and enriched it with the launch of Canasta, and Fath de Fath in 1953.

Jacques Fath's influence can be seen throughout the industry; He created for Ava Gardner, Greta Garbo, Marlene Dietrich and Rita Hayworth to mention only a few. He was the first, and may be the only person to initiate magnificent balls in his Château of Corbeville where all International elite gathered. (Peachy Deegan wishes she was there to write about THAT in the Nightlight column.)

Fath's success in Haute Couture is nothing short of spectacular. He had assistants such as Hubert de Givenchy and Guy Laroche In August 1949, he traveled to America to receive the Neiman Marcus Award for distinguished service in the field of Fashion. His untimely death, at the age of 42, brought a sudden stop to an empire to be. Along with Christian Dior, Jacques Fath's styles and creations were symbolic of the "New-look" era. Following the loss of this fashion icon, the company was taken over by his wife, and stopped Haute-Couture to become a Prêt-à-porter company. In 2009, a book about Fath was published by Assouline in New York (reviewed by Whom You Know: see beginning of this post).

IRISSIME - Jacques Fath

Eau de Parfum

“Diamonds are Forever”…

Iris Gris (Grey Iris) was a mythical perfume of Jacques Fath. In last May’s issue of the American Vogue, Editor Caroline Sieber, wrote an article about famous perfumes after her visit to France and to the Osmothèque. Jacques Fath perfumes were among her favorites within this happy few as she wrote about Iris Gris: “it is considered one of the most beautiful, if simplest, perfumes ever created”.

When Panouge took over the brand to develop and to bring back Jacques Fath Perfumes to the place they belong, one of the major challenges was to create a modern version of this mythical perfume. The in-house designer researched exhaustively into Jacques Fath‘s biography and style identifying codes and translating them into a 2009 creation.

The result is a diamond shaped bottle, grey lacquered with a silver belt. On the base, the typical star and on the top a transparent cap sitting on a neck- wrapped violet ribbon with a pasted buckle. The lozenge shaped metallic label clearly identifies the heritage while the hand-made outer carton with its patterned cardboard signs the ultimate touch of elegance.

The fragrance’s construction is around Iris, a veil on which the perfumer -Marie Salamagne of Firmenich - laid Roses, Bergamots, Jasmines ,Musk and many noble ingredients. Absolute femininity in a scent.

Irissime was chosen to replace Iris Gris which was recently appropriated by Hermès. It is modern, feminine, elegant with a touch of Paris. It resembles the woman wearing it.

IRISSIME fragrance description

The new JACQUES FATH fragrance is a Couture Perfume, of absolute elegance and femininity. The head note opens on a sparkling and transparent note, thanks to the freshness of Bergamot, the surprising Pink Pepper and the delicate Wisteria. The heart note is illuminated by a precious floral bouquet with a modernized Iris as a transparent veil on which lay and blend the subtle Rose of May Absolute and the voluptuousness of Jasmine Sambac Absolute. On the dry down note, the gentleness and sensuality of Musk and Amber are accrued by the intensity of the Cedar, creating a timeless trail of scent. Peachy Deegan just loves this fragrance and Whom You Know is pleased to recommend it!
