READ THIS: NEW YORK LINE BY LINE From Broadway to the Battery By Robinson Foreword by Matteo Pericoli

A lovely gift for yourself or to give away this holiday season, New York Line by Line presents unique pen and ink drawings with character that is as glorious as Manhattan itself! Another hit by publisher Rizzoli, New York Line by Line captures minute details that the German illustrator Robinson captures with his eye for precision and his flair for showing Manhattan to be the only skyscraper jungle on earth! The character captured in each drawing is outstanding and this is something you need to see for yourself.

Originally published in the 1960's, this book has clearly shown it is a time-tested winner for all coffee tables in New York, whether they be the coffee table of a Park Avenue princess, of a distinguished Doctor's office, or of even possibly Mayor Bloomberg in City Hall! And by the way, the drawing of City Hall is quite good. Line by Line is more than just lines: it is the amalgamation of a city portrait with more flavors than Ben and Jerry's shown intelligently in black and white. Appealing to both young and old, it thoughtfully depicts we may not have considered before and also shows some old favorites-we will let you decide which is which for you. Since they existed, we think the constant buzz of the NYSE and Grand Central are constants...

The contrast between old and new is interesting as well and of course, the greatest difference is vertical and modes of transportation are not only boats but also airplanes.

Our favorites include:
*Empire State Panorama
*The New York Public Library and Bryant Park (did they have fashion week there then?)
*St. Patrick's Cathedral
*Radio City Music Hall

The written comparison about NYC statistics between the 60's and today at the conclusion was among the best parts as well! Whom You Know recommends New York Line by Line.

Little-known today, and originally published in the early 1960s, New York Line by Line, the newest addition to Rizzoli’s Classic Reprint series, is the creation of Robinson, a German illustrator, who visited the city and documented it in his incredibly detailed pen & ink signature style. Outdoors Robinson rendered soaring skylines, aerial views of landmarks, neighborhood streetscapes, bridge views, and water ways. Indoors he captured the frenetic floor of the stock exchange, museum shows, a dimly lit Greenwich Village restaurant, cross-sections of the subway system, the United Nations, the chock-a-block interior of an antiques emporium, and so much more.

New Yorkers and tourists alike will savor Robinson’s meticulous and energy-filled drawings, as well as the urban facts that have been updated for the contemporary reader. With a foreword by Manhattan Unfurled artist Matteo Pericoli, New York Line by Line is sure to appeal to designers, illustrators, sophisticated kids, and book collectors alike.

ABOUT THE ARTIST and CONTRIBUTOR: Born Werner Kruse, Robinson drew more than 250,000 illustrations during his lifetime. He also created books, in his “X-ray view” style, on Tokyo, Paris, and Moscow. Robinson died in 1994, at the age of 83. Matteo Pericoli is the author and illustrator of the bestselling Manhattan Unfurled.
