DAYLIGHT: Big Apple Business Takes a Trip to Ireland: Dublin Means Business in 2010 Dublin Tourism Delegation introduces The Convention Centre Dublin to Key US Audience

It is no secret that Peachy Deegan loves Ireland!  Yesterday Whom You Know was pleased to join Tourism Ireland and meet Lord Mayor of Dublin, Emer Costello and her equally charming husband Joe to learn about this amazing new convention center that organizations around the world will be travelling to in great numbers!

Lord Mayor Costello spoke about the fabulous components of this new building, and concluded in saying one member of an organization had the choice to pick this one, or one in Zurich.  He told his team there was no contest between the two.  The team asked why, and he responded that he didn't have cousins in Zurich!  Peachy doesn't have cousins in Zurich either and even if she did, still we strongly prefer Dublin (we have been to both), and Lord Mayor Costello suggested that if you do have Zurich cousins, they are just a short plane ride away from Dublin.

A tourism delegation from Dublin, Ireland, showcased the Irish capital’s exciting business tourism product in New York yesterday, Monday 8th March 2010.

Councillor Emer Costello, Lord Mayor of Dublin, along with representatives from Dublin Tourism, The Convention Centre Dublin (The CCD) and Tourism Ireland were all on hand to introduce The Convention Centre Dublin to an audience of US meeting planners.

Speaking at the event, Cllr Emer Costello, Lord Mayor of Dublin said “Dublin has always been a popular destination for American visitors to Ireland and we are excited about the many new developments for the city in the year ahead. In particular we look forward to the opening of The CCD and the boost it will give to the city’s tourism industry.”   We know from living in Ireland ourselves that you will not find a country in this world that is more welcoming to tourists.

2010 is shaping up to be an exciting year for tourism in Dublin as the capital anticipates the opening of The CCD in September 2010. We understand many conventions are booked already, and we would encourage you to book as soon as possible to get the date you want.  Located in the Dublin Docklands, Dublin’s burgeoning financial services district on the banks of the River Liffey in the heart of the city and within walking distance of major hotels, restaurants and attractions.  We seriously love Dublin and cannot wait to see this in person.

“We are very excited now that we are only months away from opening our doors to the world,” said Dermod Dwyer, Chairman, The Convention Centre Dublin. “This extraordinary iconic building, designed by Pritzker award-winning, Irish-born architect Kevin Roche, has already become a landmark along the banks of the River Liffey. Not only is it stunning but it is also fit for purpose, which will help our team deliver a world-class service as Ireland now has a facility to attract the lucrative business tourism market.”
As one of the world’s first carbon neutral conference venues, The CCD has secured over 236,000 delegate days to date, which will help bring €73m to the Irish economy. With 40 events secured to date, The CCD will host a number of high profile international meetings, such as The International Bar Association, The International Statistics Institute, The International Conference of Emergency Medicine, The European Society for Biomaterials Conference and European Union Geriatric Medicine Society Conference.

Conference and meeting delegates are expected to spend €1 billion in Ireland by 2013 and Dublin is well positioned to win its share of this lucrative market.

Mr. Joe Byrne, Executive Vice President, Tourism Ireland North America said “The Convention Centre Dublin is just part of a $6 billion investment in conference and meetings venues across the island of Ireland. The facilities are now in place to ensure that the island of Ireland, and Dublin in particular, is well positioned to gain an increasing share of the international conference and meetings market.

Dublin has never been easier to get to from the US and also provides great connectivity within Europe to attract international delegates.

Speaking at the event, Miriam Kennedy of Dublin Tourism said “I am delighted to be here in New York to introduce Dublin’s much anticipated purpose built carbon neutral Convention Centre. Dublin has firmly established itself as a world class destination for international meetings and conferences and with easy access, great value and the friendliest locals in Europe; there has never been a better time to host an international conference or meeting in Dublin”.
