Advantageous Auctions Last Night in New York: Sotheby’s Evening Session of the Latin American Art

Last night at Sotheby’s the Evening Session of the Latin American Art auction totaled $12,226,550, nearly reaching the low estimate of $13.8 million. The highlight of the auction was a group of ten Masterworks from a Private Collection, Aspen, which was 100% sold and totaled $4,256,250 (est. $3.2/4.5 million). The offering was led by Wifredo Lam’s Sur La Traces (Transformation), which sold for $1,426,500, a new record for the artist at auction. The sale was 75% sold by lot and of the sold works, 87% achieved prices at or above their estimates.

Sotheby’s second session of Latin American Art will start today at 10 am.
