Jo Malone Introduces Cologne Intense: The Art of Simplicity. Whom You Know Recommends Iris & White Musk

Jo Malone unveils four new fragrances for July 2010.  Inspired by centuries old Middle Eastern rituals of layering scents, incenses and oils, and the beauty of classic ingredients but with Jo Malone’s hallmark simplicity and elegant restraint, Cologne Intense re-interprets time-honoured ingredients in four distinctively modern fragrances:  Amber & Patchouli, Oud & Bergamot, Rose Water & Vanilla, and Iris & White Musk.   Peachy Deegan has been wearing the Iris & White Musk and thinks it's perfect for summer!  We are always so excited when Jo Malone, one of our favorites, comes out with a fragrant new scent!  Particularly in the heat of summer, when not everything in Manhattan smells as excellent as anything by Jo Malone...!  Iris & White Musk has a blazing intensity like the sun, but is much gentler to your skin.  It is fresh yet full-bodied, and is  a fragrance you'd wear in celebration.  It envelops your senses at the height of a fabulous night out, and we recommend this for evening wear.  It smells like the feeling you get when you are drinking really nice Champagne: you know you are having an exquisite experience with a product that is rare and unique.  We recommend Iris & White Musk and believe it would complement the chemistry of many women in Manhattan, and of course you across the pond know Jo!  We love love love people from Ireland and England, actually all of the U.K.!

Master Perfumer Christine Nagel began working with the Jo Malone Creative Studio in 2009.  Known for her exciting, original, even experimental compositions, one of her first creations for Jo Malone is Cologne Intense. “Each ingredient has a reason for being”, says Nagel, “Nothing is superfluous.  Yes, it’s a bold approach, but I wanted to take such risks to create fragrances with impact, heart and soul.  I love to focus on particular ingredients and transform them or look for new associations.  With Cologne Intense, I chose to take potentially opposing ingredients of very high quality to create unexpected yet harmonious fragrances…because when fragrance elicits an emotion, the story begins …”

The selection of talented, award-winning Master Perfumer Christine Nagel to work with the Jo Malone Creative Studio, was a natural one.  Dominic De Vetta, Global General Manager at Jo Malone comments “Jo Malone is truly unique in perfumery: each of our fragrances is characterised by simplicity, transparency and a certain restraint.  Christine shared our philosophy of simplicity as the epitome of elegance, and there is an authenticity and precision about her own work that resonated with us.”

Iris & White Musk – Born out of a desire to create a fragrance around the Iris root - the most expensive ingredient in perfumery – this is an intoxicating fragrance of beautifully controlled contrasts. The precious iris root creates a powdery airiness, which forms the perfect counterpoint to the creamy, animalic smell of musk. A floral flourish from the Casablanca lily, deftly draws together the duality of textures.

The Art of Fragrance Combining™
Every Jo Malone fragrance is structured so it can either stand alone, or be blended and layered with other Jo Malone colognes for endless bespoke effects.  It’s a unique concept at the heart of Jo Malone, and one that fulfils that most fundamental of desires – to discover a fragrance that is truly one’s own.

Each Cologne Intense fragrance has this simplicity of construction, so that each one retains a clarity that makes them sublime worn alone, magnetic when mixed and layered.

De Vetta added, “We value our classic British heritage at Jo Malone and the time honoured traditions and craft of the perfumer.  Every new fragrance we create honours that.  Our olfactive signature is characterised by a simple composition that is always distinctively modern – and we’ve brought this to the creation of Cologne Intense.  We have embraced the richness and beauty of Middle Eastern culture, connecting with its ancient traditions and working with classic luxurious ingredients, but with the wit, elegance and originality that is synonymous with Jo Malone.”

Key Notes in Iris & White Musk Cologne Intense:

Violet
This slightly watery violet accord is crisp and very green with a sugary accent and works harmoniously with the Iris note.

Iris
The precious iris note is the scent of luxury and comes from an orris concrete – the most expensive ingredient in perfumery – a floral, very powdery note with a dry, woody nuance and sweet caramel facets.  This refined, statement note can be identified from the first impression of the fragrance, through to the heart and base, in a very smooth transition.  A voluptuous floral bouquet is created with the harmony of iris with the Casablanca lily.

White Musk
Creamy Musk adds a light animalic, earthy and woody sensuality to the fragrance.  The musk accord amplifies the qualities of the heart and top notes, making them bloom on the skin, and gives volume to the floral bouquet.
