Sotheby's Important Watches - New York, 13 April 2011

Sotheby’s auction of Important Watches & Clocks on 13 April 2011 in New York will offer pieces for every taste and collector. The sale is highlighted by a strong selection of Patek Philippe complications, modern watches from important contemporary makers, works with unique provenance and histories, and a selection of clocks from the Abbott Guggenheim Collection. The sale will be on exhibition in Sotheby’s York Avenue galleries beginning 9 April, alongside the auction of Magnificent Jewels.

The April auction is led by A Fine and Rare 18K Yellow Gold Perpetual Calendar Chronograph Wristwatch with Register, Tachometer and Moon-Phases, Ref 1518, 1950 by Patek Philippe, a reference that has become one of the truly iconic collectible watches of the 20th century (est. $250/350,000). One of only 281 examples ever made, this watch is of the finest condition, rarity and aesthetic design.
