Emma Pearl Merlot 2010 Highly Recommended by the Champagne Wishes Panel of Whom You Know

I love a good red wine. Emma Pearl's Merlot 2010 far surpasses good. I would say it is phenomenal! With the Merlot vineyards located in the heart of California's Central Coast, this fruit is subject to lots of sunshine and cool breezes from the coast. This particular vintage produced very high quality wines. This high quality can be attributed to a very wet winter, followed by a late cool spring, and a mild summer. These conditions led to a long growing season thus giving the fruit time to mature slowly. Mover and Shaker Nova McCune Cadamatre, Winemaker in charge of luxury wines at Asti Winery (brand winemaker for Emma Pearl), knows how to produce a rather spectacular Merlot. Ms. McCune Cadamatre was studying plant pathology at SUNY Morrisville and was writing a paper on diseases affecting grapevines which first sparked her interest in grapes and the products they yield. She gradually made her way through the ranks to where she is now, a Winemaker. Emma Pearl is elegant, no matter which way you look at it. Their wine bottles are identified with a lovely sea green label which is minimal, but eye catching. I enjoyed their 2010 Merlot on its own (not paired with any food) after a long, hard day. What a wonderful way to unwind! I highly recommend Emma Pearl's 2010 Merlot to any lover of red wine. Just a word of warning, you may want to purchase two bottles...this smooth, full, fruity Merlot will quickly vanish and you will be left wanting more.

It would be no surprise to me that you did a double take when you say the Emma Pearl Bottle. It is so elegant and tasteful. The pretty blue label compliments the simplicity of the bottle. I love that the deep dark color of the wine makes its own statement. The 2010 Merlot from Emma Pearl was delightful to drink. Grown and aged in Paso Robles, this wine has a winemaker that has a passion for wine that she has developed all over the country. Nova Cadamatre, a Whom You Know Mover and Shaker, impressed me with paying her dues on the east coast before she made it on the West Coast. And it was not even for acting. So let’s get to the real review of the wine. This wine was so smooth as it hit the palette. The texture coated my mouth and tongue like a liquid silk. Dark berries and spicy notes mixed with a hint of vanilla fill my senses as I sip the Merlot. Their website invokes more a lifestyle brand as they give you a couple of recipes that compliment and really bring out the flavor of the wine. So go ahead and indulge in this delectable red from Emma Pearl.

Made from selected central coast vineyards, with 82% merlot, 10% syrah and 8% carigan. Released February of this year, this delightful wine was smooth and fantastic. Emma Pearl Merlot 2010 is so wonderful due to the quality of the harvest and select region in California where the grapes are sourced. You can taste the quality and care that went into making this fantastic wine with every sip. We love the rich ruby color and fruit notes experienced in our tasting. With the perfect acid levels and freshness, Emma Pearl Merlot 2010 will instantly become one of your favorites. The hints of fresh cherries and plums are just right without being overly fruity. You will also love the sophistication of its subtle notes of pomegranates and spices. We couldn't stop staring at this velvety beauty. You should try this wine with your dinner tonight or just sip a glass by itself, we promise you won't be disappointed.

Merlot is typically my go-to choice of wine. I love red wine in particular because of its depth and smoothness. I've had the opportunity to try Emma Pearl wines in the past and have really enjoyed them. Emma Pearl's Merlot 2010, as usual, does not disappoint! The Merlot vineyards are located in California's San Luis Obispo County in the Paso Robles area. The wine is made from Merlot, Syrah and Carignan in the region. It is noted that the 2010 vintage wine are of excellent quality. This is due to a very wet winter, followed by a late and cool spring and summer months with bright sunshine, yet mild temperatures. This apparently helped the fruit develop nice fruit character, deep colors and great acid levels! The wine is a gorgeous ruby red color as a result! It also has a wonderful aroma of fresh cherries and ripe black plums. This wine was the perfect choice to pair with the dinner I made the other night! I made chicken marsala with a side salad which my friend and I thoroughly enjoyed! Whenever I see the Emma Pearl label, I know I am in store for a great, high quality wine! Nova Cadamatre makes gorgeous, delicious wines that I will continue to enjoy for years to come!

The Region: California’s Central Coast coaxes fruit to life with abundant sunshine and cool coastal breezes. The vineyards for our
Merlot are located in Paso Robles, a superlative sub-region for Bordeaux varieties. Located in the heart of the Central Coast, our Merlot thrives in the well-drained soils of Paso Robles.

The 2010 Vintage: The 2010 vintage produced wines of excellent
quality. A very wet winter, followed by a late and cool spring postponed bud break. The summer months brought a lot of bright sunshine but the temperatures were mild. This led to a long growing season allowing the Merlot fruit an extended hang time to mature slowly. Harvest started later than normal and the fruit came into the winery with beautifully developed fruit characters, deep color and nice acid levels. Overall the crop was smaller and of very high quality in the 2010 harvest.

Winemaking Notes: The wine was fermented on skins to retain the beautiful ruby color and treated carefully to maintain smooth style. The wine was lightly oaked to highlight the fruit and add complexity to the flavors. It has been bottled young to accentuate the fresh, fruity style.

Tasting Notes: Vintage 2010 was a particularly concentrated vintage for Merlot and this comes through in the deep ruby core of this wine as well as the intensity of the aromas of fresh cherries and ripe black plums. The open fruity nose is only the introduction that reveals light notes of exotic spices and soft, silky tannins on the palate. The finish is velvety smooth with lingering notes of pomegranates and baking spices.

Food Pairings: This wine is easily paired with grilled pork over a bed of fresh arugula or alongside roasted lamb chops with a red plum sauce.
