Gotham Gadgets Meets Healthy Peachy with Our Inaugural Coverage of OmniMount: Whom You Know Highly Recommends the OmniMount WORK15

Trade shows, trade shows, trade shows...we have been to them all, in New York anyway, and that is how we learned about
OmniMount.  If you've seen her in action, when Peachy Deegan goes to a trade show, she knows who she wants to see, in what order and knows what she wants to wind up featuring on Whom You Know and almost never is she deviated from what our internal goals are, which of course are not disclosed to those showing at a trade show.  We want to get in and out as fast as possible so we can get back to you with the latest and greatest.  It is a rare occasion when a brand that she's never heard of has a person representing them that is so convincing, so well-spoken and so intelligent as Betsey Banker is to
OmniMount.  Since you are probably not going to be lucky enough to meet Betsey, you ought to watch this video:
Sooooo audience, to that end (drumroll please, and Mayor Bloomberg are you reading we know you want us all to be healthy even if some people don't have the appreciation for it YET) we have found a great new product that incorporates Gadgets and Health and makes a lot of sense: the OmniMount
WORK15.
Recognizing the growing trend in telecommuting, OmniMount is launching workstation mounts that promote comfortable and healthy home computing. A global manufacturer of A/V mounts and accessories, OmniMount is introducing sit-to-stand workstations. The WORK15 and WORK20 join the ActionMount series and offer flexibility for users in today’s multi-purpose workspaces. With unique functionality and inherent health benefits, the mounts are ideally suited for home offices and shared family computers.   They fold up nicely too when you want to do something else on your desk:
“It’s becoming increasingly common for people to work from home or share one computer between multiple members of a family,” explains John Deutsch, senior vice president of NA sales. “The WORK products are designed to provide a home office solution that maximizes the available space and adjusts to work requirements of different users. In addition to offering comfortable computing, the technology makes standing while computing possible, which has significant health benefits.”

“Electronics like TVs and computers have the natural tendency to encourage sedentary behavior. It’s becoming more apparent how big of an impact that’s having on our health, and it’s time for our industry to rethink a few things,” explains John Deutsch, senior vice president of NA sales. “We’re making it our social responsibility to offer products that break the mold and have the ability to create healthier, more active lifestyles. Our message? Keep doing what you love and we’ll help you do it healthier.”

“According to the National Academy of Sciences, one goal in the prevention of obesity (and other rising diseases) is to make physical activity an integral and routine part of life. We help make this happen by encouraging a new level of interactivity for the whole family, whether with the TV or computer,” said Geoff Miller, president of OmniMount branded products. “The ease of movement is safe for even a small child, and will offer healthier options to traditionally sedentary activities like TV watching and computer-based homework. Now the whole family can enjoy activities like gaming or exercising in a comfortable and fun way, while positively impacting a healthier lifestyle.”

Global studies show that people sit an average of 7.7 hours during the day, and up to 15 hours when linked with time spent in the car, at the dinner table and in front of the TV in the evenings. Just two hours of sitting reduces good cholesterol by 20 percent, reduces blood flow and raises blood sugar, all of which contribute to obesity and the related chronic, life-shortening diseases.
The WORK15 and WORK20 have Ergotron Constant Force technology built in for simple, light-touch adjustments of the keyboard, mouse and monitor. Users can easily move between sitting and standing positions while working. The full motion functionality allows the monitor to move up and out of the way for storage, to utilize more desk space, or to share screen information. The flexibility is ideal for users on shared computers, allowing each person to achieve an ergonomic position regardless of height.

The full motion functionality of the ActionMount series encourages healthy movement that can develop good habits. Research has indicated that the simple act of standing has significant health benefits, such as increased metabolic rate and positive effects on other bodily systems. Health and wellness is becoming top-of-mind for parents and home-based workers. OmniMount’s sit-to-stand mounts are the answer to achieve a healthier and more productive computing environment, whether working, gaming or shopping.

The WORK products are designed to provide a computer mount solution that maximizes space and adjusts to the ergonomic needs of different users. Research has indicated that the simple act of standing has significant health benefits, such as increased metabolic rate and positive effects on other bodily systems. CF technology allows for simple, light-touch adjustments of the keyboard, mouse and monitor, so users can easily move between sitting and standing positions. Using a WORK mount easily becomes part of a daily, healthier routine. The WORK15 supports a single monitor up to 15 pounds and WORK20 supports two side-by-side monitors up to 20 pounds. Installation is easy via desk clamp or grommet mounting and cable clips control wires for a clean finish.

The WORK15 is available for target US MSRP $399.95 and WORK20 for target US MSRP $429.95.

Sounds great, right?  It looked fantastic at the trade show too and is a total no-brainer: no one wants to die of sitting disease so anything that can be done to intelligently combat it deserves our attention and yours as well.  Let's come back down to earth for a moment though: the real question is what is it going to be like in practice and perhaps an even bigger question-how is Peachy ever going to build it?  Will she be ringing up her Eagle Scout relative or her Engineer relative?  Note that the strongest point of her relatively short Girl Scout career was selling cookies and Peachy is a trained bond engineer which means excel she can do, but perhaps not real life building.  There is no column called Building Peachy.  She is a city girl that builds wine and shoe collections....and now she is also a city girl that built the OmniMount WORK15.  All by herself. And we believe you can do it too.

So, was it a lot of work?  Well, if you can read, which you know we can if you just check out the READ THIS column....OmniMount gives you directions with pictures that are so easy to follow and better yet they include all of the tools except for a Philips screwdriver which Peachy does own (seriously, how did you think she'd put her shoe racks together?  she needed it then...).  First, she put all of the parts out in front of her, not removing them from the packaging.  You don't want to remove them until you need them because OmniMount is such an intelligent company they label in English (and English only, which is the way every brand selling in America should do it!) on the plastic of each piece exactly what it is.  A good thing too because we don't know what an Allen wrench is or what sockets or Philips screws are but you don't need to know either-you just read the packaging and the superclear directions.  In no time flat, the OmniMount WORK15 was built.   There were some nagging fears that it would be in one big heap after it could have crashed after Peachy's return from a night out because she's not Ms. Build It, but even this morning it was still perfectly standing.   In short, you do not need your boyfriend, your dad or your brother to build this for you.

So, how is it working?  You'll have to tell us if you see any typos while Peachy is standing up!  We think this is a terrific idea, and it is the new generation of workstation.  Whom You Know Highly Recommends the OmniMount WORK15!  So far, so good!
