Lime Rock Park to “Shake-up the Cup” Race car parade through Boston ends at inaugural Boston Cup Classic Car Show

Lime Rock Park, New England’s road racing home, has joined hands with Guardian Angel Motorsports and the Boston Cup organizers and arranged for a fleet of Grand-Am race cars to “race” through Boston to the “finish line” at Boston Common this Sunday, Sept. 23, site of the first annual Boston Cup Classic Car Show.

The free inaugural event begins at 9:00 a.m. on the Boston Common, America’s oldest public park. The car show will be centered around the Parkman Bandstand, and benefits the Fund for Boston Parks and Recreation as well as the Downtown Boston Business Improvement District. Donations are not required but encouraged.

Guardian Angel Motorsports and Lime Rock Park, the historic race track in Connecticut’s northwest corner, hope to – like the Pied Piper – lead people to the car show by staging a raucous race car parade that begins around 11:00 a.m., starting from 509 E. First St. in South Boston. The police-escorted racers will pass by Seaport Plaza, Old City Hall, the statehouse and even the Bull and Finch (“Cheers”) tavern before ending up at the Lime Rock Park display at the Boston Cup Classic Car Show.

The race cars in the parade are Grand-Am GT, GS and ST competitors and include Turner Motorsports BMW M3, the Whelen Engineering Chevy Corvette, Berg Racing’s Porsche Boxsters, and a half-dozen other wild racing machines. Lime Rock’s BMW Pace Cars are also on display.

“These are loud, fast and fun race cars, most of which are racing at Lime Rock Park the week after the Boston Cup show,” said Renea Topp, the track’s marketing director. “The Grand-Am Championship presented by BMW is Saturday, Sept. 29. Lime Rock is a bit more than two hours from greater Boston, and we thought this would be a cool way to not only help make the car show even more fun, but also tell Boston people a bit about our beautiful track.”

For people headed to the Boston Cup, Guardian Angel Motorsports, which has a couple race cars in the parade, is doling out great prizes to raise money for Michael J. Fox’s “Team Fox” by hooking up with timeRAZOR(“Never Miss Out”), the free smartphone app that ensures you always know what cool things are happening wherever you are. Lime Rock “hot laps,” race tickets and more can be won by downloading the free timeRAZOR app.
