Sotheby’s Prints Sale Totals Over $9.7 Million

Friday, Sotheby’s Prints sale brought a strong total of $9,721,944, near the pre-sale high estimate (est. $7.3/10.6 million), with almost 86% of lots sold and 90% selling at or above their estimate. The top lots of the sale included a complete portfolio of Andy Warhol’s Flowers from 1970 which exceeded the pre-sale estimate of $400/600,000, fetching $653,000, and Roman Notes by Cy Twombly from 1970, which also sold above the pre-sale estimate, making $485,000 (est. $250/350,000). A further highlight was Richard Diebenkorn’s 1986 etching, Green, which reached $395,000, above the estimate of $250,000 to $350,000.



Almost tripling the pre-sale estimate was Pablo Picasso’s Grande Vase aux Femmes Voilées (Alain Ramié 116) coming from the Estate of Andrea Bollt, and selling for $335,000. Further highlights of the sale included the complete book of twenty stencils of Henri Matisse’s Jazz (D. BK. 22), which reached $317,000 and Edvard Munch’s 1902 The Kiss IV (W. 204; S. 102/D), which fetched $245,000.
