Maine Woolens, affordable luxury and tradition.
Thunder Jacksons is quintessentially FUN.  If you don't like fun, we're not sure what we're doing on our site because we are all about fun, but we want to enjoy it with brands that have it right.  When you've first got an intelligent concept and a brilliant execution, we think working hard and doing a great job and being good for your word makes you not only a responsible, intelligent person but also a fun one, or else you are not fun to work with.  There are a lot of bars and sports bars in the city of Manhattan, but they're not all the same and you'll see few of them on our site because many casual places don't understand hospitality well enough in our experience.  If you are looking for a night out on the town downtown where you'd like to catch a game in a great atmosphere with top staff and fantastic food that hits the spot, clearly it is all about Thunder Jacksons.  It is the latest and greatest in the Billy Bishop hit parade, and previously we featured Point Break and Sweet Jane's.  And how do we know Thunder Jacksons?  Because Billy was pursuing the maxim Ever to Excel even before Peachy was...and since graduation they both could be found in Central Park playing softball for the BC alumni team.  Billy was good, however, Peachy could often be found far in the outfield on her cell phone (networking, inevitably!) hoping the ball did not come at her.  If you went to BC with Peachy, you know the song in the above video from that time period and you probably were dancing in the Mods to it so BC grads, this one's for you.
If you are really Irish, you know that this fantastic Irish cider is called Bulmers in Ireland, and it is called Magners in the USA.  When it's really hot in the summer, we love this.  Peachy has been drinking it since her junior year at University College Cork.  It's perfect for a night out at a great bar.  When we arrived at Thunder Jacksons, Billy's Co-Owner Gabe Dorado met us and was a terrific host all evening.  Thunder Jacksons is also owned by Anthony, Kevin and Phil whom we do not know yet.  Thunder Jacksons has been open since May 2007 at its 169 Bleeker Street address and original location.
The food at Thunder Jacksons totally hits the spot.  From the Snacks and Appetizers section of the menu, Peachy Deegan chose the Beef Tacos served with cheese, sour cream and salsa verde. They were meaty and delicious!  Everything fit properly into the shell, and the shell stayed intact for the duration of the taco experience.  Victor Franco is Head Chef, and has been with Thunder Jacksons since 2010.
Yes, you can still have a balanced diet and eat at a sports bar.  The salads at Thunder Jacksons are simply fantastic, and that is good to know especially in the summer when they are so refreshing.  You can add chicken, steak or shrimp.  Peachy chose to add shrimp to the house salad and she really liked it.
Finally, as a main course Peachy chose The Grilled California Chicken Club.  Highlighted by fresh avocado and succulent bacon and nutritious greens, it was a hearty sandwich also perfect for the summer season.  You cannot pass go and collect $200 without trying the filthy fries, as they are the piece de resistance at Thunder Jacksons in combination with the to-die-for Truffle Mayo.  You want these!
Our esteemed panelist adds:
The world's largest mojito comes to the table. Properly mulled with fresh mint, and so deliciously refreshing, it solves the immediate problem of a summer firmly entrenched in hot. One of the owners, who was a bartender for years, is just discovering the joys of mulling fresh herbs, and has changed the bar menu to include the "Top Ten" most favorite drinks. When asked if he had ever mulled the mint with honey, he promptly went and made another mojito and pronounced it great, with the substitution of natural honey for sugar. The kitchen is just as amenable. You may not think of "kitchen" when you're in this haven of "fun", but the menu was first established in 2007, by a 5 star chef. Since then, Victor has taken over and developed his own versions of "filthy fries" and the "dirty" sauces that they serve as accompaniments. The sauces are infused with lemon, or truffle, or pepper, according to which sandwich, burger, to platter you're ordering. They're all great! And the fries are so good you'll want an order of them even if you're only having a salad.
The Grilled Shrimp on a Stick are marinated in the same peppery sauce on the fries, served with a light lemon sauce that will be perfect with your mojito.
The Creamy Caesar Salad has a light anchovy blend in the parmesan infused sauce, and as a great addition, order the grilled chicken. Great flavors here, in this "sports bar".
With my Thunder Fish and Chips I had Sam Adams' Summer Ale, and it was the perfect summer evening beer. For dessert, there was a sweet "Whipped Cream Vodka", which might be the perfect nightcap. And if the televisions don't make you happy, the music will elevate any mood. Right on Bleecker Street, long a bastion of the rock and roll scene in the West Village, Thunder Jacksons may well be a great place to hang for an hour between classes, if you're an NYU student, but its night life is part of the downtown scene. Something new, under the sun of New York City.
