TWO LIFE-LONG HOLLYWOOD FRIENDS SHARE THE SPOTLIGHT AT JULIEN’S AUCTIONS EXCLUSIVE PRESS EXHIBITION COLLECTIONS FROM THE ESTATES OF BOB & DOLORES HOPE AND OF THE FIRST LADY OF STAND-UP COMEDY PHYLLIS DILLER

Julien’s Auctions, the world’s premier celebrity and entertainment auction house, announced an exclusive press exhibition for the collections of two of Hollywood’s most prominent entertainers and life-long friends.

Bob Hope was one of the world’s most prolific entertainers with a career that spanned more than 60 years and included vaudeville, radio, film and television. Often referred to as “Mr. Entertainer,” Hope was a comedian, actor, singer, dancer and author. He was also a golfer who established the Pro-Am tournament as a way to raise funds for charity. Bob & Dolores Hope’s commitment to the men and women who served their country was legendary. Their USO (United Service Organizations) shows around the world between 1942 and 1988 earned Bob Hope a Congressional declaration designating him an honorary veteran of the United States Armed Forces, an honor he said was the greatest one of his life. Memorabilia including Presidential items, military memorabilia, golf related items, antiques and personal effects will be highlighted during the press exhibition.

Phyllis Diller, a pop culture icon and first lady of stand-up comedy is known for her self-deprecating humor. In the 1960s her fame skyrocketed after appearing on several of Bob Hope’s television specials, USO tours and three movies. They instantly became life-long friends. Her signature blonde wig, long cigarette holder and loud cackling laugh has yet to be duplicated, giving her a place in comedic history as the very first female trailblazer of her time. The auction will include extraordinary costumes, wigs and jewelry from her professional stage and television appearances, together with outstanding antiques, artwork, and memorabilia from her longtime residence on South Rockingham Avenue in Los Angeles. The auctions will take place September 20-22, 2013.
