Prepare to get lost in Atlantis! BBC’s Atlantis series will take you on a journey through mythology and history, and you’ll love every minute of it! Start off on a Journey with Jason, chasing the lost city of Atlantis, in search of his father. Jason gets more than he expected! Getting close to the ruins, deep on the ocean floor, Jason’s research submarine gets pulled into another world, the REAL city of Atlantis. We get to join Jason on a journey through history and mythology! You’ll hear great names – Pythagoras, Hercules, Medusa, Oedipus, and more – and think you know where the stories are going, but do you??? Only time will tell as the series hints at stories we learned in school, but keeps us waiting to see how things progress. This entertaining series keeps me engaged and waiting for more!

Count on BBC Home Entertainment to give us the goods. In this case, the series, Atlantis, will captivate every historical bone in your body, along with chuckles. It’s not the “sword and sandal” treatment that we all grew up with, watching Steve Reeves in the 1950’s take on Hercules, or the Kevin Sorbo of the 1990’s in the same role. These characters are scripted from mythology, historical reference, and names we all know from our schoolbooks, but they’re given a twist. The writers have approached Atlantis, the Lost City of legend, with tongue in cheek, and a bit of reverence. Their research is thorough, and names are not taken lightly when given to different characters. The episodes will ring true in the sense of “I heard of that before…”, but the twist the plot gives everything is different. It may be the tried and true good/bad story in the end, but the BBC always produces such wonderfully visual tales, that we get involved from the beginning with the plot. Hercules is here, as a lovable post-fame character, with just an edge of the Lou Costello about him. Pythagoras is the nerdy friend, of course, with his interests rooted in science, and his triangles, but as a cohort of the many adventures set forth in each episode, a loyal and true third of this formula. Jason (not yet of the Argonauts) is the seeker of truth, and resolver of mysteries. With oracles, flying demonic dragons, witches, Sirens, and an evil Queen, this story unfolds in a way that allows you to follow the path, and cheer the heroes onward. One of the fun things about owning this set of DVDs is the behind the scenes footage. Always a lover of the backstory, I found the interviews and insight as interesting as the storyline itself. Totally family worthy, and perhaps a way of adding history to the equation of home-schooling, Atlantis will reverence and revere the past we know and the past we’ve only dreamed of in one happy-go-lucky approach.

I love mythology and tried to take as many courses as I could on this subject in school. I also love movies, books and now a series that took place in mythical times. The BBC brings us Atlantis: a new series now out on DVD by BBC Home Entertainment. Jack Donnelly stars as the main character (Loved him in misfits) who ultimately is searching for many things but at the forefront is finding out what happened to his father. Great costumes, beautiful cinematography and in-depth characters that amuse you and captivate you at the same time. Add this to scary monsters and rituals that will blow your mind give you quite a bit of good entertainment. So escape to Atlantis with this 3 disc set and live the adventure for yourself.

BBC Home Entertainment has a fantastic reputation for bringing the very best in home entertainment to its viewers, and it looks like they have another winner on their hands with the British series, Atlantis. Starring Jack Donnelly as Jason, a modern-day young man on a search for his father, Atlantis begins with Jason departing on a deep-sea mission and washing up on the shores of the lost city of Atlantis. Pure magic from the moment he finds himself in the fabled land, Atlantis perfectly brings to life the lost city of our imaginations. Atlantis, it turns out, is dotted by some of the most famous names in Greek mythology - among them, Pythagoras and Hercules, both of whom befriend Jason. Of course, as there should be in any tale involving Greek mythology, there is also an Oracle, who informs Jason that he has been brought there for a purpose, although she neglects to say just what that purpose is. Deliciously fanciful, this engaging series follows the adventures of Jason, Pythagoras and Hercules (collectively known as "the boys") and viewers will find themselves absolutely entranced. Mythology buffs will also delight in the appearance of other beloved character such as Medusa and Oedipus, among others. Absolutely engaging from start to finish, Atlantis is highly recommended by this panelist!

Legends come to life when BBC AMERICA’s Atlantis: Season One makes an epic journey onto Blu-ray and DVD. From the creators of the internationally acclaimed hit series Merlin and the creator of the award-winning Misfits comes a new action-adventure series full of mythological heroes, historical figures and dangerous monsters. When Jason set out to find his father, he could never have anticipated where his journey would lead…

The Associated Press states, “[the] show takes age-old stories and seasons them with humor, thrills and a central bromance.”

Far from home and desperate for answers, Jason (Jack Donnelly, Dancing on the Edge) washes up on the shores of an ancient land - a world of bull leaping, of oracles and of palaces so vast it was said they were built by giants. This is the lost city of Atlantis. But beneath the surface of this enticing place is a dark and simmering past, a complicated web of treachery and deceit in which Jason himself now seems inexplicably bound by a destiny he doesn’t fully understand. Aided by the studious young Pythagoras (Robert Emms, War Horse) and the overweight, overbearing Hercules (Mark Addy, Game of Thrones, The Full Monty), Jason embarks on a voyage of discovery which sees him brush shoulders with Medusa (Jemima Rooper, Hex), come face to face with the Minotaur and even do battle with the dead. A treasure trove of Greek myths and legends are re-imagined in a whole new way as this unlikely trio embarks on this edge-of-your-seat adventure.

Atlantis premiered Saturday, November 23, 9:00pm ET/PT as part of BBC AMERICA’s biggest Supernatural Saturday ever, and delivered the highest rated series premiere ever for that block. BBC AMERICA has already announced that a second season of Atlantis has been picked up. In the UK, Atlantis is the biggest new Saturday night drama series to launch across all BBC channels since 2006, even up on the launch of hit show Merlin. The series also stars Sarah Parish (Hatfields & McCoys), Alexander Siddig (24), Aiysha Hart (About Time) and Juliet Stevenson (The Hour).

Bonus Materials include:

· Behind-the-Scenes featurette with cast and crew interviews
