Tony Taylor Suffers Season-Ending Injury

New York City FC forward Tony Taylor has suffered a season-ending injury, the Club announced on Tuesday.

Taylor, 25, suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) rupture with lateral collateral ligament (LCL) damage in the 35th minute of the Club’s match against the Portland Timbers on Sunday evening at Yankee Stadium.

“It’s always very disappointing when you see a player suffer a serious injury,” New York City FC head coach Jason Kreis said. “Tony is a great young professional and I know his teammates are going to miss him on the field. Everyone at New York City FC is 100 percent behind him in his recovery and will be there to help every step of the way. I know that Tony will receive the best medical support, and I’m confident that he’ll come back fitter and stronger than ever.”

Taylor will undergo surgery later this week. The timeframe of his return will be determined following the operation.

Taylor, who was selected 10th in the 2014 MLS Expansion Draft from the New England Revolution on Dec. 10, 2014, made two appearances (one start) this season for New York City FC.
