Etiquette from Connecticut dictates that your napkin goes on your lap before a meal begins, and since we've been to EJ's a time or two before, we thought we'd dress to match in their signature white and blue!  The White shirt is by Donna Degnan (Made in America!) and the blue/black leggings are by Emilio Cavallini (Made in Italy!).  And you know who dinner is by:
EJ's was most recently featured in 2015:

EJ's was first featured in 2010 in Terrific Takeout:
and we returned in 2011 when it earned a spot in Peachy's Picks:

EJ's stands for Eric and Jay and it was founded in 1990 on the Upper West Side.
In 1992, it opened at its current location on the Upper East Side and there are three partners, including Rob Eby.
EJ's is exactly the kind of spot you want to go to on a day like today when winter came out of nowhere so you can feast upon their amazing French Onion Soup:

You'll revel in the goodness of this warm wonder and you know that EJ's understands that there is no such thing as too much swiss.  Oh how we wish we were eating that right now!  Look at that gorgeous melted swiss on top and the signature onions are hiding below.  We do need to start a food column on what we would eat during a game, because we'd include the next EJ's hit:
Touchdown in Peachy's stomach!
Their chicken quesadillas are not only delicious but also are pretty healthy!  That's a whole wheat tortilla, and the chicken is sourced from Ottomanelli on Bleecker: it's free-range.  Cheddar cheese, guacamole (fantastic!!!) and salsa round out the party on a plate.
Since we've been here before we love to see what is on their specials menu, which changes seven days a week!  The BBQ Baby Back Ribs had their name in lights the day we visited, and the pork ribs were also darlings from Ottomanelli:
Here's their headshot:
And their closeup:
They did not live a long enough life to be interviewed and lived happily ever after in Peachy's stomach.  These pictures are not edited and they do not lie: these ribs are THAT fabulous!  Baked sweet potatoes, sauteed spinach and a buttermilk biscuit join them in this comfort food winner that you'll just love.
If you like to Tweet as much as someone here, you know she tweeted during Dancing with the Stars on Monday:

Food-storming with Tina Fey and Michael Che | American Express
at EJ's Luncheonette:
Owner Rob Eby knows everyone!  He tells us that Woody Allen filmed part of his new Amazon "Crisis in Six Scenes" at EJ's Luncheonette; we're having a very Woody week between Rob Eby and Grace Szuwala (stay tuned for more on Amazing Grace; she's doing her "homework").  Also in star news at EJ's you may have noticed MVP of the Carolina Panthers Cam Newton was photographed with Karlie Kloss here.  The best stars are the food though!
When you see the words "Cheeseburger Deluxe" you should automatically say: "Yes, please!"
Of course the resident cheeseburger monster picked mozzarella to go on it and it arrived in style as requested: grilled a proper medium.  It's exactly as you'd want a burger to be.

One of the most phenomenal aspects of the meal was the Grilled Salmon Avocado Quinoa Salad.  It is salads like this that raise our overall standards and have us thinking in our heads at lesser venues with lesser salads: that's it?  It's not like Rob Eby's at EJ's!
This majestic salad boasts sublime Canadian Salmon (we had to ask-Rob says the fish does like hockey and is an avid fan of the NHL) and is entirely substantial as evidenced by the hass avocado, red and white quinoa, sweet corn, cucumber, petit greens, sea salt, lemon juice and evoo.  For someone that does not like anything foreign to her tastes like quinoa, Peachy really loved this salad including both types of quinoa.  The natural salad dressing was also a nice touch.
This is what a lot of places should aspire to in their salads, and it quietly screams that this is not just a luncheonette:

The salmon story continues!  Meet the Blackened Salmon Sandwich.  We don't see enough food prepared in this cajun manner and we'd like to see more of it across the board.
A brioche roll is the setting for this fantastic fish with its classic lettuce and tomato and basil mayo to-die-for.  You cannot ignore this menu item: it was the first part gone from this review!

EJ's is Terrific Takeout, of course!
