Washington Capitals forward Alex Ovechkin was named the 2018 Conn Smythe Trophy winner. Awarded to “the most valuable player to his team in the playoffs,” Ovechkin was selected the winner in a vote by a panel of the Professional Hockey Writers Association. Ovechkin was the League-leader in goals during the 2018 Stanley Cup Playoffs with 15 and finished second in scoring during the 2018 Stanley Cup Playoffs with 27 points (15-12-27). Ovechkin becomes the second Russian-born player to win the Conn Smythe Trophy and the fourth player born outside of North America to earn the honor (Evgeni Malkin, Russia, 2009; Henrik Zetterberg, Sweden, 2008; Nicklas Lidstrom, Sweden, 2002).
