We've read many books on Coco Chanel, particularly this summer as we saw some amazing editions at the New York Book Fair in early June.

Previously on Whom You Know, we have reviewed:
and even did a children's book:

The best one we've read this year is this one.

Bronwyn Cosgrave, whom we do not know but would like to-Bronwyn, if you would like to be considered for an interview, please email Peachy, has compiled the most intelligent, comprehensive, interesting and gorgeously sublime book with "Vogue On Coco Chanel."

Clearly Bronwyn must have divided it into five sections on purpose as that is the magic number of Chanel; you will see in this order: Easy Elegance, Fashion Forward, Nonchalance Deluxe, Golden Age and the Comeback as you turn each sophisticated page oozing with Chanel brilliance.  Less is more with each introduction with a small quote of superlative elegance.  Of course, because this is Vogue, you see this historical coverage of the Chanel brand from Vogue itself and this alone puts this work in a class by itself.  No one else can provide such significant historical context.

From the hats to the perfume to Verdura, Vogue on Chanel will enlighten and enrapture you, particularly as you have not lived the entirety of this illustrious history and can only relive it through these pages.   You'll add to your Chanel knowledge from embroideries to proportions to the true blue comfort of luxury.  Many books on Chanel reiterate what has been said before but this one really captures the essence of Chanel from the birth of the iconic brand to her passing in 1971.  Alas, Peachy was born too late to know her.

"See, you didn't know everything about her!" you'll say to yourself as you finish the last page.

A true influencer influences from the grave for eternity.

Vogue On, Indeed, Chanel!

Bronwyn Cosgrave's "Vogue on Coco Chanel" has earned Whom You Know's Highest Recommendation.

In Vogue on Coco Chanel, acclaimed fashion writer and commentator Bronwyn Cosgrave traces the story of Coco Chanel's iconic designs and glamorous, racy life. Featuring original illustrations and images from celebrated photographers, such as Cecil Beaton, the book provides a completely fresh look at the fashion designer, who is arguably 'the most influential female designer of the twentieth century'. Coco Chanel pioneered classic easy-to-wear fashion for the modern woman. Perhaps her most important contribution to the fashion world was the simple, much-imitated 'little black dress', which made its debut in 1926. Other landmark creations include the Chanel suit and the quilted handbag. It is a testament to her lasting influence that these legendary designs remain as popular today as when they first appeared.

Bronwyn Cosgrove is a curator, broadcaster, luxury brand consultant and the successful author of acclaimed fashion history books. She is the former features editor of British Vogue, and a regular contributor to international editions of Vogue.
