After Rome, Paris and Hamburg, CHANEL is pleased to announce that the next 2018/19 Métiers d’art collection will be shown in New York. Karl Lagerfeld has chosen to unveil this new collection at The Metropolitan Museum of Art on December 4th, 2018. Since 2002, the Métiers d’art collection has become a highly anticipated annual event. With every collection, Karl Lagerfeld's creative genius and avant-gardist vision inspire the Métiers d’art ateliers that magnify each one of his creations. As artisans of the impossible, season after season they reinvent both their traditional and innovative savoir-faire, achieving veritable feats of technical complexity. With Karl Lagerfeld, these crafts have embraced modernity and ensured longevity, while nourishing their artistic heritage with an evergreater sense of creativity and daring. Every year the Métiers d’art collection shines a light on a destination that is dear to CHANEL. In 1931, Gabrielle Chanel first visited New York – a place where her revolutionary style had long been celebrated, as demonstrated by the support she received from the US department stores that carried her earliest hat creations starting in 1912. Karl Lagerfeld is also very attached to the American megacity whose energy and light he has always loved to capture. The designer has featured this city as the backdrop for several of CHANEL's advertising campaigns. Now, after the Métiers d'art "Paris-New York" collection shown in December 2005 at the CHANEL boutique on 57th Street, and the 2006 Cruise collection presented under the impressive vault of Grand Central Station, this Métiers d'art runway show will be the House's third to be held in New York.
